White Eyeliner?

I bought some white eyeliner because I read that it makes your eyes look bgger. It does make my eyes seem more open, but it looks kinda freaky. Does anyone know what I'm supposed to do to make it look good? Is the white eyeliner thing something I should only be using onstage?

Re: White Eyeliner?

Maybe use it in the corner of your eyes the way the tribal girls do. I really wouldn't know what to do with the stuff myself. Sorry, that didn't help you very much.

Re: White Eyeliner?

I will put it on the inner corners, just near the tear ducts. Also can be used on the outer corners between upper and lower lines. OR you can use it to line the lower lid; just put the brown/black liner below it. The idea is to make the eyes look bigger than they are. Usually it's best for the stage. If I do a restaurant show or something up-close, I use a shimmery white eyeshadow. It's less harsh-looking up close.

Re: White Eyeliner?

I have used it to line the inside (water line) of the lower lid. If plain white looks freaky, there are also silver and pale violet liners for the same purpose that might not look so weird.

Re: White Eyeliner?

imo: stage only.
use in corners of the eye. and possibly like sedonia said, unless you wear contacts of course.

if you are going to one of those uv rave parties, then white eyeliner all around the eye would be perfect ;)

Re: White Eyeliner?

The stark white eyeliner can be "too much",most of my clients and customers are happy with the Shiseido concealer pencil in "Light" I suggest instead.

Re: White Eyeliner?

I saw an article in a fashion magazine one time in which two drag queens were talking about their favorite makeup tips. One of them said that in order to make your eyes look bigger, you should line your eyes in white directly above the lash line and then line with black liner directly above that. "It really makes the eyes pop!"

Re: White Eyeliner?

I was a teenager in the 60s when white eyeliner, white shadow, white nailpolish and white lipstick were in every girl's purse! I can remember going to coffee houses in my all black beat clothes with white pearl polish and matching lipstick. And of course with my hair freshly ironed straight by my mom--on the ironing board!!

Re: White Eyeliner?

I use white eyeliner all the time! Not just for stage...

It's not a stark white though... and more of a softer, shimmery white in a wide pencil. I simply line my upper lid above my lashes, then use a finger to blend it in. Paired with darkest brown mascara, and I love the way it makes my eyes look and do not find it harsh at all. In fact, it barely looks like I'm wearing makeup at all... which is a look I love for daily wear.

As for on stage? I usually go for a more smokey-eyed look with golds, browns and khol liner and don't usually use the white.

Re: White Eyeliner?

Like Adishakti, I wear dark eyes for performing- I actually cannot get away from a smoked blue eyeshadow set I have. Guess you really can't take Jersey out of the girl... :)

Almay used to make double tipped pencils- one side was dark and the other was light. I bought them all bc I loved them so much- dark brown/tan, dark blue/light, dark purple/lilac and black with white. I use them for daytime and nighttime (just add more shadow for night). I wear the dark on my upper lash line plus just the outer corner of my bottom lashes and the light on my lower, like regular liner. I have had compliments especially on the black/white, what a neat combo it is- I think if it's not a wide line and is smudged, it won't look weird at all.

I have found that an eggshell or ivory color works very well if you want to get a similar, yet more subtle effect.

That sounds beautiful!
When I use a "white eyeliner" on me or clients,I put it on the rim of the inside lid,and around the inner corner-thatīs what makes the look bigger and brighter IMO.
Then however I combinate it with "smoky eye"or what I refer to as "The Marilyn";light shadow on the moving lid, taupe and dark brown in the socket line, and eyeliner in a wing.

Re: White Eyeliner?

This is my eyeliner of choice,itīs the BEST Iīve ever tried.
Since itīs so thin,I use a needle thin line for a natural/day face and wider and more cat like for party/evening/stage.

Re: White Eyeliner?

White eyeliner looks freakish on me personally. My sister though uses it all the time and it looks great on her. She ususally puts it on first and then uses a darker eyeshadow over it to tone down the brightness of it.

Re: White Eyeliner?

*Inside* the eye. Outside the eye can look rather weird, except perhaps on the inner corners (I often smear silver shadow there).

Re: White Eyeliner?

Yes, if your goal is to make your eyes look "bigger", you should line your "water line" with the white liner. However, in my opinion, it'll never look like anything other than it is - white liner. It's just not going to look very natural, so it's not something I'd suggest for a day-to-day look.

Exactly,it just brings out capillaries if itīs a true bright white!

Just as contouring looks like dirty stripes on the face when itīs badly done...

Re: White Eyeliner?

you can use the white on the lower inner rim, but go easy with it. It work best if you put black eyeliner - eyeshadow along the lower lash line, and mascara - that's how you make your eyes look bigger. I do it all the time.

you can also use it on the inner corner of your eyes, right before your eyelashes would start. When I do this I put something shimmer on top of it - white pearl eyeshadow, or metallic pink / pearl lipliner.

You can also use white and black eyeliners to create contrast on your eyelids - you just have to play with it and see what looks good.

Re: White Eyeliner?

Its going to look like makeup no matter what you do with it, so try the cool silver color on the waterline of the lid and line with dark under. That way, people know you are being theatrical and not just looking weird.
It will enchance your costumed look.

Re: White Eyeliner?

I just got in my new "Enhancer" eyeliner from Paula Dorf

It's called "baby eyes" and it is AWESOME for mundane daytime even tho I plan on adding it to the performance makeup bag too.

Creamy pale pinkish beige. Really helps add that extra something without looking garish.

Love it, love it!
