should you tie dye while pregnant
A few ladies have written to me over the past year to ask what I did about dyeing silk when I was pregnant with Zack..this is copied from an email I sent out. I erred on the side of extreme caution..
I made the decision to stop dyeing while I was pregnant with Zack. My husband mixed and prepared the dyes for me and also washed the silks in synthrapol afterwards. i did the staining and manipulation of the fabric, but i was so sick all the time in that pregnancy so production work was at a minimum. I wore gloves and worked outside. Be careful around steaming dyes, if they are hot they can enter your nasal passages easily since the steam rises and it will likely go right up your nose :) I used to pull out purple boogers and that can't have been too good. Watch the fumes because things that are inhaled could be dangerous or could just make you really sick.
Check with your doctor if you really want to continue dyeing but I would not recommend doing the mixing of the dyes themselves or working with the synthrapol or other chemicals. I wouldnt even wash my hands with the Reduran cleanser..
