I think it was probably flesh coloured panties, but even so...eugh!
It's not even as if the costume was that nice, it looks like the moths have been nibbling at an old dress.

I kind of love that dress. I agree the flesh-lined bits are WAY too close to the crotch. If it wasn't for that, I would seriously love it. Probably mostly because it reminds me of Dina's spider costume, which I think is many shades of awsum.

if that is the one made by hallah moustafa then it has flesh colored panels and built in undergarments. at least originally. i don't know if it was ever modified..if this is the same dress.

i watched hallah build many super-sexy costumes and they all had flesh colored panels and/or invisible undergarments when originally constructed so you could never really see anything.

but i supposes that goes back to the issue of personal taste...

what do you all think of the costume in this nagwa clip, the pink one in the begining? this has got to be the barest skirt i ever saw her in [never mind the super gross grabby guy...blech!]

It is very naked-looking. I think the whole atmosphere of the clip contributes to the risque-ness as well. To me she looks like a scantily-clad 70's housewife in a frilly negligee entertaining a bunch of salesmen.

Her costume looks like a lingerie bra, and a few skimpy bits of chiffon sewn on to the knickers, and the pale pink colour doesn't help. However, there was no slippage-risk element, which is always a relief!

Firefly took the words right out of my mouth. THAT was risque. Even with a full body flesh tone stockings. IMO more so than todays costumes.

Holy hair, batman!

And speaking of batman, I thought she looked a little superhero-esk with her veil around her neck like that! Mee hee!

I don't think it was that bad! Yeah, there was a lot of leg, more than I would ever show, but it was clear she was wearing underwear and everything looked like it was going to stay firmly in place, with no surprise flashing going on. What makes me nervous with today's costumes is the "Is she, isn't she?" underwear question, along with the "Oh my God, don't bend over too far or lift your legs up, p-l-e-a-s-e!" factor. Everything bursting at the seams and the constant fear of whether something's gonna fall out or flash us is when the costume takes center stage instead of the dancing. What Nagwa's wearing in this clip looks no more risque than a jazz dancer on Broadway.

My main concerns are that the dancer picks outfits that suit their body type/style and that she not flash her audience. June may be busting out all over, but not on stage, please!

Speaking for myself, if I'm speculating on whether bosom/bodice separation is imminent, the dancer might as well be standing still for all I'll remember of the show.

Also, I particularly like in the Nagwa Clip how she does her costume change.

I think what makes the big difference is that there was no fear of slippage (as others have pointed out) and that her dancing was totally classy and didn't head in a different direction (ie, where that sleazy guy wanted to take it!)

or, I was blinded and utterly distracted by her MASSIVE HAIR!!

ohh I love Nagwa too! <3

ok so I'm kinda jumping into this debate here, if what I say has already been said, please don't kill me. :p

One day for fun I went into this store that was obviously selling to strippers in the local area. I saw some funky high heels and outfits. But what really surprised me was how similar a few of the "costumes" looked in comparison to some Sahar's i've seen. It actually turned me off her costumes a bit (I've owned 3, none are as risque as what her new stuff is like) Specifically her new "halter-style" top with the clear strap holding it together in the center, YUKKK! I feel like she just keeps thinking "how much more can I charge for less *fringe/fabric/beading*"

For the most part she is a wonderful and original costume designer and I like most of her stuff, but I find some of her newer stuff to just looks trashy. :S A lot of belly dancers are very concerned with being lumped into the "stripper" category, so why are we buying costumes from Sahar for big $$$$ that I can go and pick up at "Blondies Boutique"? They look the same! (and the store was actually called that btw)

I agree with the many others on this thread that when I don't have to worry about a dancer flashing me her naughty bits I feel better watching her dance. And I don't mind some leg, or cleavage, or even undies showing when its more or less meant to be part of the costume, (kinda like the way ballet leotards look, know what I mean..?)

and what is up with the new Pharonics costumes with the cut outs on your ass!!! whhhyyyyy!!!?? how distracting will that be when you dance! jeez!

ok so maybe I'm young and stupid and don't know what I'm talking about, and I bet 10 people will disagree with me or be offended (which I did not intend at all, so I apologize in advance if something I wrote wasn't explained very well) ...but that is what I think...

:)

I'm offended by the ass-outs, not your opinion.

I wonder if you missed the Sahar thread and poll.

The new Sahar's most are HORRENDOUS.
IMHO.

I just got home from watching Damiena perform in two beautiful Sahars. Nothing trashy about them; they were very elegant. Some of the others, though.... yikes.

As someone who has sworn off chiffon - I could be tempted to 'turn' with that "not risque but really beautiful" costume about - wow. Also, I love love love Asmahans feathers - something about her stage show persona, and her sense of kitch really appeals to something in me :-)

I remember Damina's Sahars, and they were beautiful from what I remember on bhuz.
