Lip stain

I found one past topic where cheek (and lip) stains were mentioned, and this is a bit of a follow-up:

I am not too crazy about lipsticks (the layer of stuff on my lips doesn't feel all that good), a semi-permanent stain seems like a great idea for me. Any advice on which brands are most lasting?

The most famous lip stain on the market is "Benetint" by Benefit cosmetics.
It's a clear red liquid stain that can be used on lips and cheeks.

I HATE Benetint! maybe it's the way my lips are, but the stain is so liquid-y that it settles in the middle of my lip - like I've eaten a popsicle. But the outsides of my lip are normal color. I prefer Urban Decay's ink stain:

It comes in a pen form and is fairly easy to apply. I go light on it though because it's definitely color intense. It lasts for a really long time too! No need to re-apply.

I like LipSense. It's sold by individual distributors but many of them sell on ebay or have their own websites so you can find it pretty easy. I use that and clear lipgloss over it and it lasts me half a day.

I love Benetint, but I mostly use it on cheeks (not lips). People always tell me how great my skin looks when I'm using that cheek stain! Plus it lasts all day and night...but you have to have "even" skin to use a stain. If you have dry or oily patches it won't blend right!

I love the CoverGirl Outlast lip stains. The ones in the blue box last longer but are a touch more drying; the "satin" ones in the pink box last a few hours fewer, but feel very nice and smooth on. They're both quite an ordeal to remove, which makes them ideal for performing.

Benetint also comes in a balm formula that isn't as liquid-y, but will also give your lips a nice stain.

I would also suggest Bobbi Brown's Lip Stains - they come in a range of really nice colors. I especially like Chili, which is a great, matte red. Her Pot Rouges are great, too - moisturizing, come in wonderful colors and can be used on lips and cheeks.

Update: armed with my Bhuz knowledge, I went to Sephora. I tried out all stains they had on my hand, got some ice-cream, and then went back. I got a Lorac stain in a great color (slightly brownish red), and an Urban Decay. Since Sephora lets one return things that don't work out, I felt quite safe. They didn't have the Urban Decay pens, though.

And, I tried Benetint - but it seemed too runny to be easily applicable for lips. Bourjois had a cool pen, but I was out of money for the day ;-)

These colors do go on different than e.g. my super-last two-component Mac, which is good. So, now I will do the real-life test ;-)

There's a new product out in the UK by Collection 2000 that's called "The Cheek of It", and it's a lip and cheek stain. It's a liquid in a bottle, with a brush applicator, and I used it today for the first time. It worked a treat, stayed nicely, and best of all I got it for free. All I had to do was buy another couple of products and I needed those anyway.
