Advice needed: I can't find a belt to go with this set...
Hey everyone, I need advice/help!
I love this set-I got it from Dahlal (called "Egyptian Radiance")but I can't find a belt to go with it.
I have a skimpy loop belt I made to go with my wings, but I want more movement. It's very shiny-its like a liquid lycra/lame.
Any suggestions? Help!
Sorry for bad pics...

Hi Amity,
I don't think you need a belt for this. I love it just like it is but that is just my opinion.

Been browsing...
...quiet night tonight, so I was browsing Dahlal's site...what about the Egyptian coin belt AJ07?? (Couldn't cut & paste photo).
Or were you wanting something with fringe for movement?
I saw a troupe wearing this with heavily coined hip scarves and it had a more folkloric look (rather than cabaret).
PS Its fun shopping for someone else, since I have no $$ to shop with at the moment!

Are you wearing the "wimpy" loop belt in the photos? It looks nice. I found this at Pyramid Imports, you could sew it onto a shiny base:

I saw full-on beaded belts for sale somewhere but now I can't remember where I saw it.

Found this at Pyramid also:

Farther down the same page there is a silver Turkish style belt which is nice.

Dunya - I like the one you found with the blue beads! What do you think, Amity?

I do like them, and I like the idea of a more folkloric look. T
he thing is though I am addicted to movement...aka fringe!
I really want to make it more of a professional set by spiffing it up a bit. Do you think that would do it enough? I do like all of the ideas though-makes it a very vesatile set!

You could always get a basic bra/belt set in gold with lots o' fringe and just use the skirt as a 'separate' to really mix up your look. I like the shine/shimmer of the pattern on the lycra and its very flattering on you.

What about a silver belt from Isis Exchange? I think they sell them for about $50. Fully sequined, glass bead fringe... Heck, right now they have a sale on - you can buy the whole bedlah for $100 custom made to your size.
Then you could either wear the bra and belt with the skirt here, or the top and skirt with just the belt... And since silver is a neutral color in belly dance, you could wear the costume with just about anything.

what about thos ebay special belts? the costume (and your hips!) are beautiful enough that you don't need that much and you could wear something relatively simple for contrast?
great minds htink alike! i see many others have chimed in with the same idea :-)

How much sewing/stringing are you willing to do? You could always sew individual fringe strands to the skirt itself all around the hip area, with maybe a border around the top. You know, like those fringe-y dresses? And some matching beadwork on the top. But it would be a lot of work, and you'd have to be sure the skirt fabric was strong enough to hold the weight of the beads. I think it could be very pretty though.

If you look in my profile, I've made all of them except my blue one.I don't think the fabric is strong enough. Otherwise I'd be all over it!
Thanks for the compliment Kina

That skirt wasn't really designed to be worn with a belt. Personally, what I would do is make my own "belt" by reinforcing the top part of the skirt with a coordinating fabric. Then I would add my own fringe, using appliques or jewels to cover the fringe where you sew it on the fabric.

Hi Amity, I agree totally with Norma that the skirt wasn't made to be worn with a belt. It does look really nice with what you have.

Or you could add a coin or costless style belt. . .

I see something shiny (gold sequins to blend??) sewn somehow on to a turquoise blue chiffon scarf (that matches the chiffon in your skirt and sleeves, obviously...) that ties around your hip. maybe not with a simple hip scarf tie...maybe it needs a fab blingy brooch to hold it closed?? I think that the coordinating color at your hip would help to accent your movement without overdoing it. it's a simple, elegant costume...one that does not need the distraction of fringe. think Sahar okasha.....
