Isis Wings Instructional DVDs?
I just purchased my first pair of Isis Wings. I was wondering, is there any Instructional DVD's for Isis Wings. I have heard they are similar to using a veil. Is that true? I can't wait to dance with them!

Re: Isis Wings Instructional DVDs?
Ayshe's video, Wings of Ayshe is pretty good, it's fairly comprehensive and tells you how to dance with them, rather than just spinning around prettily. Ayshe's a bit...unique, but she's a good teacher.

Re: Isis Wings Instructional DVDs?
I have reviewed Ayshe's instructional DVD on my web site. See Belly Dancing: Shira's Reviews of Instructional Videos, Alphabetical List
The short version: it's primarily instruction in posture and arm carriage. Definitely technique, NOT choreography. But then, Isis wings look rather droopy if the dancer doesn't have good posture and arm carriage, so the focus on technique is appropriate.

Re: Isis Wings Instructional DVDs?
Throwing in an opposite opinion here I was not that fond of Wings of Ayshe. For me I found it a bit slow-too much on posture. Yes I know that is important and wings exagerate every posture fault but as a dancer I know that. There were also lots of moves that i would never really do-don't suit my body type and very contempory dance.I thought her performances were good as contempory dance performances-not as anything remotely Middle Eastern nor was there any Middle Eastern music used so it did not give me what I wanted.Phoenix I shall be ordering your Wings DVD I'm very interested to see it.

Candi, I agree with you that Ayshe's wings instructional DVD is very heavy on technique from ballet or modern dance, not much Oriental in the way of movement or music.

Re: Isis Wings Instructional DVDs?
I got my DVD from Phoenix-thanks. I like it a lot. It really is a perfect tool for those people who bought some wings and are thinking "now what do I do with them".It is clearly explained, gets on with it and pretty soon you are into some stunning effects with the wings. The all important posture reminders are there and the good advice to check your look in the mirror.
I've been dancing with wings for a while and I got some new and creative ideas to use-I particulary liked the little touches and accents she included and bless you Phoenix, you actually explained how to do a barrel turn that made perfect sense to me. i've always had so much trouble with that.
Phoenix has a nice friendly manner on the Dvd, it is very clear to see what is happening both with the wings and what she is doing. There are lots of ideas and inspiration here.I'll be recommending this DVD to my students.
Of course the next problem everybody has is actually finding somewhere to practise with them!!

Re: Isis Wings Instructional DVDs?
Hi
I've spent time studying with Ayshe and I can confirm that she is a real stickler for posture! She is also a wonderfully warm and very caring teacher. I have been dancing with wings for many years now and she has taught me a lot.
She emailed me recently to say that she is about to launch a new DVD which will cover technique but will also include a choreography - I am looking forward to seeing it.
I try to spend some time with her whenever I go to New York and I cannot recommend her highly enough as both a teacher and a performer.

I am glad you are enjoying the DVD..my intent is 'get them on and start flying'. Thank you for your comment -- I really appreciate the feedback. I hope to see some postings of you dancing with wings sometime!
