Question about the movies "Mawwal" and "Salama"

I found a DVD on www.rashid.com for a movie titled "Mawwal" and lists Nadia Gamal among the cast members.

I found a DVD on www.aramovies.com for a movie titled "Salama" that lists Nadia Gamal among the cast members.

Has anyone seen either movie?

Does Nadia Gamal dance in either one?

Were these movies made in Lebanon or in Egypt? Does anyone know when they were made?

I realize that although Nadia rose to fame in Lebanon, that doesn't automatically mean that the movies she starred in were made there. Other Lebanese people (such as Farid al-Atrache, his sister Asmahan, Fairuz, and others) appeared in Egyptian movies. So that's why I'm wondering about Nadia's movies.

okay,
Mawaal, Sabah plays a country girl who is a good singer (of course). She just happens to meet a singer/show producer (Farid el Atrache) that decides to make her his latest star. He gets her to go along with it by pretending to be in love with her, but he is really engaged to his star dancer (Nadia Jamal). I wont give away the ending, but Nadia dances 4 times in the film, once in the opening a Lebanese debke like number, once in the middle as a curtain grinding belly dancer (this segment is on the trytel videos so you might have seen it), again in the middle in a more go-go dancer party style, and then near the end as a debke dancer again with full debke ensemble.

I also have Ezzay Ansak where she plays Sabah's little sister (is very young) and dances in a very classic style.

I don't have the other one you mentioned, but I'm curious to see it (I really like Nadia Jamal). You'll have to let me know what you think if you get it.

Thanks so much for posting the information about Mawwal and Ezzay Ansak! Since both contain scenes of Nadia Jamal dancing, I may just need to buy both!

I'm still wondering whether they were made in Egypt or in Lebanon. Maybe someone who knows will chime in and let us know?

Sorry I can't help you there. I don't know how to tell. (The dvd covers are less than informative). They have Levantine star line up, but that deosn't necessarily mean they were made in the Levant...certainly they would have been made for the Levant. Mawal in particular seemed to have a very patriotic bent.

There's a famous Um Kalthoum movie called "Salama". Can't remember if there's a dancer in it. The music is good, tho. Well worth it for Um Kalthoum alone.

Yeah, I was wondering if it was the same film. I have a copy of the Um Kalthoum film, and I seem to recall dancing. Will pull it out to see!

I just took a closer look at the site that is selling Salama and it does appear to be the Oum Kalthoum movie: http://www.aramovies.com/addprod_eng.asp?productid=3978
