The Belly Dancer and the Drummer

In 1984, there was a movie made called Al Raqissa wa al Tabal, which means The Belly Dancer and the Drummer. I have not seen the actual movie so I can't tell you what the plot is about, but I found this video clip of a scene from it:

The dancer is Nabila Ebeid, who was quite famous as an actress, but never worked as a dancer. Although her dancing isn't bad, it's definitely forgettable. She accepted a role as a dancer in other movies during her career as well.

It's disappointing that the producers of this movie opted to go with Ebeid in the title role, rather than one of the famous working dancers of their day such as Nagwa Fouad, Soheir Zaki, or Nadia Hamdi.

I see my fave actor Ahmed Zaki. He passed away (I believe couple years ago) from lung cancer (Rahamu Allah) :-(

I do like Nabila, but I agree that Souhair Zaki would have been better, just as Nadia or Nagwa. They are definitely better dancers.

For those of you who like what you saw of Nabila Ebeid in those clips...

Although I have not been able to find The Belly Dancer and the Drummer on home video, I have been able to find one of her other movies on home video - The Belly Dancer and the Politician. I got my copy from www.fineartfilm.com though with some googling you might be able to find it on ebay, or perhaps at www.aramovies.com .
