my second sahar

I went to the Belly Dance Store last night and bought my second Sahar. The bottom was like the tan one below, and the top like the pink one below, except mine was in red. It's super cute on. I'll try to take a photo of me in it sometime:

While I was there I noticed many pretty ones. I think she's posted most of them on the website, but a couple of them I thought were particularly notable. And their photos don't do them justice. This one:

looks much prettier in person. Those shiny bits that look like palettes are actually shells, mother of pearl or abalone or whatever you call it. And the color is a nice golden brown. So pretty, but you do need a little cleavage to pull this one off(I didn't have enough for this one),

and this one:

The color was incredible in real life, the design was so elegent and I was very tempted, it fit me quite well.

Also this one:

has little metal jewelry pieces on it, which had a sort of Gothic appeal, very cool in real life. The bra was too big for me on this one though.

There were several other pretty ones, but you can see them on the site.

The Belly Dance Store

Seriously, I don't work for the Belly Dance Store or anything, but these Sahars are so pretty, I just want to talk about them. There was a really great and unique blue flowery ruffled one she doesn't have on the site yet also.

Oh there were some pretty Emans and some interesting designer knock-offs there as well. Raqia Hassan's designs steal a lot from Eman and are quite pretty and I saw Sim and Bella Egyptian knockoffs there as well that were kind of fun. I also kind of liked this chain one:

The Belly Dance Store

she also had it in blue.

okay, enough wasting time. I've go to go.

my red sahar

Sooo, I wore my new red Sahar on Halloween. I didn't really feel like I was dressing up, but I thought for fun I'd dance for my friends at the party I went to. I danced for about 3 minutes to non-belly dance music in my costume. It was pretty weird. This was an art school party and somebody brought one of the most demented art videos I've ever seen and it was playing silently in the background as I danced. It was pretty distracting, I don't even know why I bothered.

But you know...as cute as this costume is, I realized this just felt too sexy for me. My blue Sahar I feel classy in, but in this one I just feel too naked for some reason. It could be that the leg opening is so open and I had to scrunch and pin my red undies so you couldn't see them through the sheer shorts, or because the bra feels so Marilyn Monroe, I'm not sure. So I'm putting it up for sale on the swap page. Kind of a shame, it fits me great and is a very flattering fit. But I thought I'd post it here first, just to add to the thread.

I know how you guys love these early morning photos of me

What's interesting and kinda funny about that is Eman's boutique/studio and Raqia's dance studio share the same flat. When asked how she felt about being copied in general, Eman said that she considers it a compliment.

Ok ladies today my Sahar arrived!

I struggled with the bra as it was too small on me so I took all padding out but still I feel my girls are not 'safe' so maybe the cup is just a bit too small

What do ya'll think?!

I think it looks good. I don't think it looks like you'll fall out from the photo.

You look hot in the picture. The more important question might be: Did you dance in it yet and how secure did that look/feel?

It's a rockin' style.

Thanks for the compliments and no I didn't tried it out yet as the bra doesn't feel safe at all. The bra fabric pieces just cross in the back and only close with a little hook on the sides of the bra cups (you can see a pic of that construction earlier in this thread on a black costume similar to mine). And my brests tend to stick out a bit at the sides so I'm not sure how to secure the girls in the bra. Any ideas here please?

Can you pull the center closer together, then maybe add a dart to the outer edge to keep the fabric closer to your skin?

Sorry for asking but what is a 'dart'?

Darts are happy friends that make you're clothes fit better!

Here's an explanation on Simplicity

Here's what you can try:
Put the top on inside out. Where it bows away from you on the side pull together the extra fabric and pin, like is shows at the top of the simplicity page. You should end up with the point of the dart towards the center of your breast (but not all the way in the center, this causes bullet-boobs!). The line of the dart should end up somewhat like this:

Now put it on normally, and see if it lays nicer. Even if you're not a sewer, you can probably still sew it by hand.

How sweet of you to help me with all this! The problem is the bra has cups inside which don't follow your breast around near the armpit but just stick out a bit to the sides, they just have a flat bottom if you know what I mean. So it's not the fabric that's the problem but the cups...

{Sigh} I wish I had small boobs so I could wear the cuter Sahar's, as it is I had to buy the D/DD blue costume. What I don't understand is why do the Sahar's cost so much if the rhinestones are ironed or glued on. It's not like they were pain stakenly sewn on. This will most likely be my only and last Sahar I purchase. Can't see why they cost so darn much compared to a Bella... but I have yet to buy a Bella. Maybe after my bank account recovers.

Jasani, I actually think Sahars are made for busty gals. I admit that the one Rakkasah Barbara has on is prob. best for the C cup and under set, but the other ones look good on girls with boobage...

rakkasah Barbara you are so rocking that top. It's showing just the right amount of clevage. I don't see a problem BUT I can't see the side of your top to see if your spilling out to much there. I can't imagine you would be though.

This is the Sahar I initially bought but had to trade it in because the cups were too small
The Belly Dance Store
I'm hoping the DD cups will work better. The little "S" is cute.

Yeah I dunno, not having tried one of these on or seen one in action I am having a hard time envisioning actual movement in this costume!
But I am guesing that surgical tape or whatever beauty queens ( or Jennifer Lopez) use to keep their bikini bottoms in place might be what you need to feel more secure without radically messing with the design.

Good luck and I want to see a youtube clip :)
