Hi All, Slightly off topic, but if you like "Dina" from Yousry's Volume 3 but think the instrumentation is a bit sparse, it's on my CD "Golden Days, Enchanting Nights" as "Leyla's Music" in its original fully orchestrated arrangement, recorded under the direction of the composer, Hassan Abou El Seaoud. It's "Leyla's Music" because the composer told me it was perfect for me! Dina used it in her show at AWS 4 years after the first edition of my CD was out. Yousry picked it up in Cairo after that from whom? I don't know. You can hear 2 minutes of the original at

I'm thinking about investing in some new music soon. If someone were to purchase a single Wash Ya Wash CD, which volume would Bhuzzers recommend at the best one?

I actually like the 5th and the latest, the 7th.
I performed to Raks Layalina the last two shows I did on CD #7.
Music is real hard to recommend however, what one person luvs, another person may detest...
anyway, those two are my favs.

Maria, I love Layalina isn't that on #4 too?, I didn't realize #7 had another version of it... oooh
But if I had to recommend just one for a first time buyer I would go #1 or #2, both have a good selection of classics, traditional and folk-ish.

Apart from Layalina, a more studio sounding layalina, there is a lovely Siret el hob, a song called 'modern rababa' which is, well a modern sounding rababa song and kinda funky, and a lovely but fairly standard taxim baladi.
Dancer produced cd's are always good value, cause you know they always have the highest ratio of 'usable songs' compare to other albums and you can't really go wrong with wash ya wash. But... It doesn't actually present anything Startlingly different from the other wash ya wash albums.

I've danced to "Modern Rebaba" before--if you really like rebaba, you'll really like that song

If you like iTunes, a bunch of the Wash Ya Wash CDs are now on there (don't know about the new one, though). You can just pick and choose the songs you like and make your own Wash Ya Wash mix.

You can find these also from eMusic- they have all the others except the first and this latest.
I myself like the older ones the best (no:2 especially) - I think that 5 and 6 did not include anything special so I am also a bit doubtful for this no:7

Unfortunately No. 7 is not available on iTunes yet.
I ordered it from amazon now and will tell you what I think about it when I get it.

Like it very much
We had the same question at a german forum a view days before and I wonder a little bit that this CD is not more common yet.
For myself, I like Vol. 7 very much - in contrast to many of the other volumes. No electronic sounds, no synthesizer-tunes or other "modern" effects , at least it sounds much more melodious and one can easily imagine how Raqia would teach her choreographies to that music or how Randa dances to it.
The CD offers 2 longer pieces for dynamic dances (Raks Layalina is also on Vol. 4, but I like the Vol. 7 version more and it's partly vocal), fusion music form each tango and spanish sounds with oriental, the Sheherazade theme, a long song for a emotional "new cairo style" interpretation and more delightful things. You can really use it for different reasons (show routine, special appearence sessions, duets, dancing theatre...)
If I wouldn't already own it I would buy it again - but of course that is according to my taste and I don't know what you like.
