Suhaila Fitness Fusion Jazz

Can someone tell me about this video?

Is it more bellydance, or more a "fitness" focused class?

Also, what level is it designed for?

Thanks!

Paula

I would say neither - it's more of a jazz choreography with some hip work layered over it. It would help to know some dance terminology because she calls out movements like pas de bourres, etc., but if you just watch it a few times, you will get the idea.

I'd say it's in the Intermediate range, unless you have more jazz experience. In the Bonus features, there is a segment that is closer to advanced.

You can rent her entire series from netflix, to test them out and see if you want to invest in certain ones...

I don't really like Suhaila's videos. I find them to be very repetitive & kind of too hard. But the performances can be good. The fitness fusion series is designed as workout videos. For a belly dance workout, I like several videos much better. the first few are available from amazon.com: Amira Mor – “Belly Dance for Energy” (moderately easy & short) (these show up at Ross Dress for Less sometimes)

Kathy Smith with Ansura – Flex Appeal (fairly easy & short)

Aziza’s Ultimate Belly dance practice companion (hard & long) & Aziza Raks (performance) (a lot of fun)

Bellydancing: The Sensuous Workout with Shamira – this is a good length & not too hard, not too easy

(not available from amazon) Keti Sharif “Body Quake Elements” (moderately difficult & long, but easy to put together a good 20 or 30 minute aerobic routine; somewhat repetitive; contains some latin) - see

I like Suhaila´s Fitness Fusion series a lot even though I think that Jazz is the weakest one of them all (others are Yoga, Pilates & Buns). As the movements are not broken down it is not recommended for beginners (despite the unfortunate subtitle "bellydance for beginners") as you already need to know basic movements to be able to follow this... you do not learn dance from these but for workout I think this gives quite a good challenge especially if one is not used to Suhaila´s style: especially bun-training (appears especially on Buns-DVD but also on Pilates) and also abdominal part on Pilates-DVD are quite hard and repetative but I think that if someone wants workout with some spices from dance it is better to concentrate to have challenge than just to shimmy around (for which e.g. Ansuya´s Lavish Layers or Jenna´s Heartbeat of Bellydance are some good choices) or to have light series of steps like in Flex Appeal or some of Bellytwins DVD:s

I love the Fitness Fusion Yoga, but the undulations mixed with the butt bouncing always scrambles my brain, so I do one or the other.
