Songs from the Victorious City CD

Anne Dudley and Jaz Coleman-Songs from the Victorious City

I purchased this CD at Yousry Sharif's last workshop and I really love it. Its such interested music. The songs are mostly moderately paced but its all lively. You can listen to clips on Amazon and #3 is the one that Yousry used in the class.

To listen click here Amazon.com: Songs from the Victorious City:...Amazon.com: Songs from the Victorious City:...

#3 is one of my favorites from this CD! I wish I could have attended Yousry's class!

It's great that this CD is available again. It seemed to be out of print for a long time. I love the track "Habebe" -- very haunting. I listened to it and had a vision of a dancer kneeling with a sword on her head, her veil undulating with her snake arms. Then I had to figure out how to make that happen!

You ladies know the good stuff, I'm such a newbie (hence my one measly star). Can you tell me some more of your all-time faves?

Heh, funny, I have the cassette (or maybe LP, have to check).
One of the guys was in Killing Joke (80s-ish band).
I have a memory of it being pretty electronic sounding and the tracks being really hit or miss but I think I'll give it another listen...
Thanks for the reminder!

Fire Dance has the coolest "pharaonic" piece on it...

I like everything from the Upper Egypt Ensemble - hardcore traditional driving-beat saidi rhythms, some with vocals, some without.

YOU'RE a newbie! Cripes, I'm still at NO star!!!!! GRRR!

Songs from the Victorious City is a little notorious around here since my teacher did a "you will be dripping with sweat by the end" choreo to Ziggurats of Cinnamon. It's jazz dance fusion and has a ton of traveling steps in it. And a lot of shimmies exactly where you'd think they would go... and a collapse to the floor... thank goodness it's a short track!
