I am really excited about the new CD that my friend Tina Enheduanna just finished with her partner, drummer George Medlock! It's called "Sweet Fruits for Heavenly Hips" and it has one hour and thirteen minutes of acoustic drum and percussion rhythms (no electronic or synthesizers), designed for use by teachers for drilling in classes.
The rhythms include chiftitelli for warm up/cool down, beledis fast and slow, 6/8, masmoudi, saidi, fellahi, maqsoum, ayub, zar, and a drum solo at the end. It has 23 tracks that can be mixed any way you want to tailor it for your own class (that's what I'm going to do!) And it's nice and repetitive in each track, so there is plenty of time to use each rhythm for teaching purposes.
It's the next best thing to having live percussion musicians playing for your class!
I promise I'm not getting a kickback for posting this (aside from possibly some appreciation from a friend..lol), I'm just excited as a teacher, and proud of my friends for the quality product they have put out. (My student/co-dancer/friend Lauren MacDonell did an amazing job on the cover and insert graphics too!)
So for all of you teachers always on the lookout for pure rhythms CDs that can be used for class, here is a link to Tina's website (the only place to purchase the CD thus far - it just came out last week)
