Modern Tribal Bellydance DVD with Asharah

Does anybody own this DVD?

After watching the trailer, this is my impression:

What's that noise in the background while she's dancing? Aaah, they call it MUSIC!
Sorry, who was it who said something about angry farting robots in a car crash? Totally describes it.

Can't people just dance to melodies or is that totally old fashioned for Tribal Fusion?

So, I watched it again and turned off the music. Much better!

Seems to me like a LOT of "normal" bellydance or am I wrong? Not that I complain
But I think they should have called it Fusion instead of Tribal bellydance.

Re: Modern Tribal Bellydance DVD with Asharah

She uses the Salimpour technique, so maybe they meant Tribal as in Bal Anat Tribal (which was just regular BD with different clothes and music) and modern because of the background noise... err I mean music. It looks good, thanks for posting the clip I didn't realized it had already been released.

Re: Modern Tribal Bellydance DVD with Asharah

I was the editor for this DVD... Yes, Asharah uses the Salimpour method in her warm up and technique section of the DVD. But she is teaching a tribal fusion method of ticking (or popping and locking) which is where the "modern" comes in. She explains this later on in the promo. Much of the music in the DVD is created by her husband, the musician, Maduro except the 2 performance pieces shown in the promo. This style of music is not my favorite but I really enjoyed the energy of the 2nd performance piece which is featured at the end of the promo (red background). I have to say it was a blast to edit to.

Re: Modern Tribal Bellydance DVD with Asharah

The title may not be "tribal fusion" but "fusion" is all over the description -- did you read it? Or listen to Asharah's introduction and overview of what the video covers? If you had the sound turned off for the entire promo, you missed some important information that might have addressed the issues and questions you raise.

Re: Modern Tribal Bellydance DVD with Asharah

I REALLY don't get the draw of "industrial" music, but maybe that's because I'm an old fart pushing 40.

Curious --- how is this dvd going to be any different from the other WDNY "Tribal Fusion" dvds? I haven't seen a whole lotta difference between each one of those.

Edited to add: Oh, here's how it's different. The "Robot" motion idea.

From the box:
One of the signature features of Asharah's dynamic and futuristic dance style is strobing, ticking, and robotic accents and freezes creating an impression of non-human, mechanical precision. In the "Modern Tribal Movement" section (30 min.) Asharah teaches this powerful and unique style of accent execution by breaking upper and lower body bellydance movements first into three and then into four segments, drilling each at accelerating speeds. Regular work using the conditioning exercises and drills from the previous sections of the program will make your body move with Asharah's clockwork precision!
