Suggestions for cane and Malaya Leff instructional DVDs

I'm really interested in learning tecniques for Rakset Assaya and Malaya Leff. I'd like to purchase some instructional DVD's on both. If anyone has any suggestions for really great instructional DVD's on the subject, please, do tell.
Thanks!
April

Re: Suggestions for cane and Malaya Leff instructional DVDs

I have the Magdy el-Leisy meleya leff DVD from Little Egypt, about a third of the way down on this page:

Aida/Magdy Seminar 2005
(yes, it says Aida, but he's there too)

The audio is rather sketchy, but I don't think he's giving a lot of detailed instruction, so it doesn't matter too much. The music comes through clearly. It's a very cute choreography and gave me plenty of ideas/combos to use with a meleya.

For Melaya Leff:

Check out Faten Salama's website. At the bottom she has an instructional DVD for Melaya Leff. Below is the description:

"Melaya: If you have been waiting for a Melaya Leff teaching tape, with not only choreography but information regarding costuming, rationale, motivation, styling, expression, interpretation and appropriate cultural context, this is the DVD for you! "

You can also listen to an excerpt. It is at the bottom middle of her webpage.

::::::: FATEN SALAMA - MASTER INSTRUCTOR :::::::

Hope that helps!!

I took her meleya workshop and really enjoyed it. I think the DVD is the same material, in which case assuming the camera work is fine I'd recommend that too.

Can you tell Badriya likes meleya?

It's not available yet, but.... there will be a DVD (in early March, we were told) of the fab milaya leff workshop that Mohamed Shahin taught here in late January. It's a wonderful choreography. I'm a total fan.

Re: Suggestions for cane and Malaya Leff instructional DVDs

I have the Nourhan Sharif Rakset Assaya dvd, and it provides a lot of great instruction on handling the cane. She breaks down the moves by showing them 1/2 time, then speeds it up to full time. She starts by wearing practice attire, then switches to a traditional galibeya. There's a short improvised performance at the end.

I would say it's great if you have never gotten detailed instruction on assaya movements, need a refresher on how to handle the assaya, or if you're looking for ideas on putting together your own choreography. If you're looking for an already-complete choreography, it's not the right video; also, if you're looking for super-advanced moves, it's not the right video. The movements are fairly basic.

I think I'm going to get Faten Salama's video...I love melaya leff!

Also, does anyone know of a video that teaches double cane???

Thanks Safiyah. There is a DVD on Dahlal's site for double cane taught by Magdy El Leisy.
