Re: tribal tryst
I have to agree that I am a bit frustrated at the bhuz/tribaltryst divide. Not because I don't have time to check both-- quite the contrary, I have a surplus of free time at work! haha! But it promotes and deepens a divide between tribal and orientale, which I think is a bad thing.
I'm not saying all bellydancers have to be interested in performing both styles, but I really think that at the very least we bellydancers should want to learn about the history and culture of all forms of bellydance, not just the ones we focus on learning, performing, or teaching. I also think it's important to have a dialogue between dancers of both styles so that misconceptions don't emerge on both sides of the aisle.
Also, the way they promoted the forum on Tribe was seriously quite annoying and unprofessional.

Re: tribal tryst
I have tried to pet peacocks before. They run away. They don't seem to be all that pettable. However, I do spend some time sitting in various gardens petting a Pomeranian. Does that count?
That reminds me of the night Ka'iulani died, the last Hawaiian princess. All her peacocks started screaming, apparently.

Re: tribal tryst
There is now an ATS/ITS forum over there! Windigo is being very responsive to suggestions and questions. I'm kind of liking it, but agree that maybe there should be a portal from Bhuz to Tryst and back again.... if that's even possible.

Oh, I want to check out your clothing line. Do you have a link? I'm a dancer in both worlds. LOL

Re: tribal tryst
I don't like the divide. I feel like I have too many online accounts.
Tribe.net - the only good way to find out about local events where I live so gotta keep that
LiveJournal - all my best friends are on there and it's where I started, so that "home" so gotta keep that
Bhuz - new to bhuz but the Swap Met is the best thing that ever happned in the history of the world so gotta keep that
Tribal Tryst - signed up cause, well, I don't know why
Okay, my head is spinning now.
Also, I don't think Tribal Tryst if user friendly. I also think the blue on blue is hard to read.

Re: tribal tryst
I'm willing to give it a chance - I like the darker colors and think it's a nice change. Then again, I love message boards and have no problem adding another to the list.
I know it's dead there now, but if everyone who were interested in tribal dance and its offshoots were to come over and chat, it would liven up. And I don't think there's anything bad with folks have a tribal-centric place to go. Yes, it would be lovely if the division between dance styles would disappear, but it hasn't, and I don't think it's necessarily adding to the divide to have someplace that is devoted to tribal dance and its enthusiasts.
Many dancers here have suggested that tribal dancers practice "truth in advertising". I agree. I think tribal is an offshoot of Middle Eastern Dance, but a thoroughly American dance style. Having a separate venue to discuss it would add to "truth in advertising", in my opinion, as it allows for recognition of it as a separate, or at least, recognizably different, style of dance.
Them's my .02. YMMV, of course. Anyway ... back to reading!

I've had peacocks approach me one time, because they were let loose on my undergrad campus (no joke. no joke at all, they were an institution for years)...they...are not....nice....at all...and if you feed them enough junk food, they'll plume for a dumpster...and then chase you....even if you weren't the one to feed them

Re: tribal tryst
If anyone's wondering why a lot of tribe.net people haven't joined or you haven't heard about it from tribe, the posts were deleted as spam because they were from 3 different someones with no picture, no friends, no nothing. Makes me not want to join.
And being "tribal" myself, I like bhuz. Sure, it's more sparkly than I normally am...but not by much :-P

That's weird. I have no friends and no picture, and my posts haven't been deleted.

Re: tribal tryst
Posts normally only come under suspect when they're on every single tribe and they're promoting something. And this one was.

Re: tribal tryst
Oh. I think I was confused (which happens easily *g*).
I thought you meant that people from Tribe were having their posts deleted when they posted at Tribal Tryst. Now I see that you meant the other way 'round.
