tribal tryst
i just stumbled on tribal tryst... and find it a pitty it's not ONE with bhuz...?
why create a totally seperate forum for tribal? is there no room for it here? it's what i always liked more about bhuz than about oriental dancer, that some tribal dancers came on here too...
i'd love a bellydance board with room for all those different styles, and fruitfull discussions!

I agree. I think that there is too much of a seperation as it is.

Re: tribal tryst
I know this has come up on Tribe (when it was thought that Tribe was likely to go down forever) and some people said that Bhuz was too focused on oriental dance and not friendly to Tribal.
I too wish we could be one big happy board, because there are so many issues that affect every style of dancer. Also, it would build community across styles.

I think that's a great idea, cover ATS, Fusion, as well as the different branches of Cabaret/Oriental, so specific genre/style questions could be addressed in those areas.

Re: tribal tryst
Tribal Tryst was spamming (in my opinion) several tribes, so I was really surprised and sort of bummed to find out it was a bhuz venture.
I would also prefer an expansion of bhuz (or other existing forums, but I admit I am partial to this one) rather than a whole new forum. No belly dance ghettos!

Re: tribal tryst

i'm not in favor of genre segregation either, but am all for manigable scope of projects ;)

Re: tribal tryst
While I agree with Monica, I'm also aware that a lot of tribal dancers don't like having to have anything to do with Cab Uh Ray and a board that is all "tribal" could possibly appeal more than Bhuz, which some seem to think is antitribal. There's a solid history of tribal separatism in events, etc, (someone in NZ recently asked about how you did a hafla and a person responded saying they'd only been involved in "tribal" haflas, which a) I know for a fact is not true and b) what the hell difference is there, REALLY), so having a separatist board plays to the market.
Shame, but there it is.

Re: tribal tryst
That saddens me. As a vendor, I thought my merch appealed mainly to am cab dancers and I thought I had a difficult time packing up souk for Tribal Revolution this year. Low and behold, my Merch went over exceptionally well. Tribal girlies love my clothing line. And I love the tribal girlies. I wish there was a way we could all live in one big message board!!

Re: tribal tryst
I am split on it. On the one hand, I'd love to see more good ol' tribal on Bhuz.
But then, in all fairness - given some of what tribal has developed towards, and the more conservative view of oriental dance and the discussions here, I can't blame those who are into the more experimental fusion branches if they may not feel that Bhuz is the best forum for their preferences. E.g., Tribal Tryst has a special board for Burlesque costuming - I am not sure that a discussion of the finer points of pasties in a bellydance performance would fly on Bhuz.

Re: tribal tryst
I am a tad confused about that - there is burlesque, but I don't see ATS/ITS. Maybe all the ATSers will end up on Bhuz, that would make me very happy.

yeah.. I was wondering the same thing too. Perhaps the "Tribal" forum is meant for ATS/ITS? It would be great if that were more clearly marked though. I was going to start a thread over there on Improv styles and didn't really know where to put it.

Re: tribal tryst
Could somebody clue-by-four me, please? Is "Tribal Tryst" a Bhuz forum? Another web site? A Tribe tribe? (It's not showing up on teh google.)

Re: tribal tryst
Tribal Tryst Front Page
It's a parallel site to bhuz. I think it is run by the same people/persons as bhuz, but I'm not sure, since the moderator's handle isn't "rosey" on Tribal Tryst. it's "windigo."
It's pretty neat, although I do kind of agree with the folks who say it only adds to the tribal/oriental divide. Still, the breakdown of styles is nice and I hope it does well.
