How to reduce profile photo size?

Hello,

Oh no, I'm now imageless! How do I reduce a digital photo's size to fit the uploading requirements for my profile? My images are all massive - around a zillion-pixels by a zillion-pixels and are several megs in size. They are all jpegs. I'm running Windows XP Office.

But hey, I looove the new smilies!!!

There's a great little photo viewer program called Irfanview. It doesn't have a huge number of features, but it's quick and easy for cropping, re-sizing, etc.

Thanks Antimony, I shall check that out. Isn't there any way to resize photos in existing Windows programmes? I did try re-sizing the image in Windows Photo Editor, but by the time I reduced the size to 120 pixels as per Bhuz requirements, I was almost unrecognizable as a human life-form.

The only thing I could suggest is if you crop the photo and then resize...I imagine that you want to show your face? crop to that and then resize for avatar. If you want to do a full body shot like Antimony then you'd crop fairly tightly around the body. Even the most basic photo editors have a crop function so I hope this helps.

You want it to be 120 pixels X 120 pixels, not 120 pixels total.

I would also like to get a face shot up. So far all I can fit in is a section of cartoon me.

I actually really like your avatar Caroline...it makes me smile! all you have to do though is resize the imagine and you'll be able to fit it all in - as someone here said 120 pixels x 120 pixels you can even do it in paint if you are using windows

http://www.resize.it/

This is an online resizing feature I've used successfully -- no downloading needed!

You can also "compress" a photo in MS programs such as word and power point then resave the image. If you import the large image into one of these programs, right click it, format picture, compress, you will have a few options. That MIGHT work.

I use photoshop but not everyone has that! :-)

I used Photoshop to resize mine. Click on the option that says "image size" and it'll show you the number of pixels. Just type in 120 and 120 in the width and the height spaces. If the picture is rectangular and not square, Photoshop will automatically adjust it. For example, mine is rectangular so Photoshop adjusted it to 90 X 120 pixels. (rather than 120 X 120)

Regards
Priscilla

Look at me, look at me, I have a picture! Admittedly, I'm so small as to be almost insignificant, but at least I'm not a blank. Thank you everyone for your help. I used the www.resize.it site. What a great tool!

Thanks again.
