I'm loving "New Posts," buuuuut....
It's kind of frustrating to have all of the swap meet posts mixed in with the other topics.
I get all excited when I see so many new posts only to discover that about half seem to be costumes for sale.
Is anyone else feeling this way? It's kind of like opening the newspaper and having classified ads mixed in with the news articles.

I love seeing all the swap page posts in with the new posts. Costumes and videos go pretty fast sometimes, and that's the easiest way for me to see the latest offerings without searching around.

I totally feel this way!! That's been the complaint of a lot of us about the "New Posts" function being different from the old "Active Topics" function. It's very confusing and makes for less efficient bhuzzing, when all the topics are jumbled up together. I don't think there is anything that can be done about it, though. I seem to remember Rosey saying that was something that couldn't be changed in the new format.

The other topics mixed up don't bother me, but the shopping pages mixed in do bug me. However, I can understand that it's faster if you actually are hunting for new costumes.

I don't know if this will help but, I think you can double click on the swap meet "bulletin board" icon on the main forum page and it will mark all those posts as read. Then when you click on new posts you can choose to only pay attention to the posts in bold face.

i can't stand the "new posts" feature
i liked that the old board told you which threads had been updated so you only had to skim maybe 25 things to decide what you're interested in. this way, you either have to skim 100s of posts, or go into every board directory and see where there's activity.
grrrr. all this bells and whistles ****. yes, we can do a lot more on this platform (blog, animated smilies, friends, etc), but we HAVE to do more (manually search for the threads you want) because the computer won't. what the **** is the point of a database if you still have to scroll and click through page after page? it's not supposed to electronic index cards, it's supposed to be a flipping database!
reminder: i am full aware that Bhuz had no choice about a new platform. i just wish the guys who created it paid as much attention to the computing aspect of it as they did to the fluff.
but then, i'm the person who got pissed off by the stupid graphics of paper flying across to the trash can when you deleted a big file. *********! maybe if the machine weren't wasting its brains on that **** it would delete the damn file faster.

It seems like I'm an old cranky curmudgeon, but I want discussion not: "violet Sim," "brown bella," "two beginniner costumes," clogging up the works.
I will try to figure out how to mare the forum as "read."

Go to BHUZ Forums using the link in the top left hand corner, navigate your way to swap meet
Then in forum tools (just below the long list of page numbers) you can click, "Mark this forum read", which will mean that nothing from before then will show up when you then click on New Posts.

When I check "New Posts" there are still tons of costumes listed.
It's really annoying. I'm just tired of it. Am I doing something wrong? I marked the forum as "read" but I don't see how that really matters when using the "New Posts" function if there are a ton of new costumes listed in the swap pages.
Discussion is one thing, shopping is another. I hate having the two things mixed up.

It only marks *everything up to that point* in the Swap Meet forum as read, any new posts that get posted or replied to after that will come up the next time you refresh New Posts. It's going to be very pronounced today because of all of the Tony and Roby costumes all over the swap meet right now.
I think everyone is in agreement that we'd all like to see the New Posts sorted by forum. I've been searching online looking to see if there is an extension or code modification for vBulletin I could forward to Rosey, but so far, I haven't found anything for the current version.

One thing that should be possible... We could ask Rosey to exclude the Swap Meet from the "New Posts" entirely - everything else would be mixed up, but it wouldn't be content and sales mixed together.
Then anyone who was interested in buying/selling could just go straight to the Swap Meet forum.

I can easily skip most of the costumes for sale just by the thread title, but some throw me off like the "OO7" ones. I think it's a discussion topic, but it isn't!!!

This may not be feasible due to the complexity of the technology, but...
It would be nice if there were a way for a user to specify "hide these sections from my 'new posts' list". That would allow someone who has no interest Swap Meet to hide Swap Meet, while someone else who loves looking at the sparklies might decide to hide the Off Topic section.

From what I've seen of the way it's done, no I don't think that would be possible.
The fix for removing one forum from the "new posts" appears to be to explicitly go into the code that constructs the new posts and make the change. It seems to be an everybody-or-nobody thing.
Obviously, even if swap meet posts were excluded from "new posts" the swap meet forum itself would still function normally when you go directly to it, with new posts bolded and in chronological order and everything.

Guys, I've had a huge breakthrough! I've figured out how to monkey with the search url to get the new posts minus the swap meet!
Instead of hitting New posts, bookmark this URL:
http://www.bhuz.com/forum/search.php...new&exclude=28
Here it is as a link
This link will get you new posts in every forum *except* the swap meet!

I'm one of the sick ba$tards who actually WANT to look at the pretty sparklies -- BUT I wanted to give Antimony a gold star anyway.

Way to go Antimony!! I'll give you a gold star too for having amazing computer skills.
I personally don't mind having the swap meet mixed in. It clearly states on the right side of the screen what post you will be opening. So, if you don't want to look, than you shouldn't open it and on top of that, it only takes a FEW seconds to scoll down to other topics. It not very time consuming at all.
Now please know that I am saying this with a smile on my face and NOT rudely at all.
It is so hard to get my posts across without p*ssing people off b/c there is no way to hear my tone of voice. I'm still concidered new here and most of you haven't figured out I have a crazy since of humor and love to crack jokes. I'm very pleasant and have a wonderful since of humor.

Michelle, there has been a lot of discussion lately about how the swap meet is growing while the discussion on the rest of Bhuz is dwindling. I'm not sure that's actually the case, so much as a perception that the costume posts are almost "drowning out" the regular discussion in volume.
All I intended in posting the modified search URL is a quick and dirty solution that streamlines the core discussion experience for Bhuz for those of us who are magpies and are too easily distracted by pretty sequins.
i.e. "I had this interesting idea about Egyptian shimmies and muscle... hey, look! sparklies!"

Maybe it will come and go in circles. I agree, there have been ALOT of costume posts lately. Tell yourself they don't have glitter dots and save them for me.
