Stolen Costumes....:(

After a great night performing with my friends and students at Kolbeh in Lake Oswego, Oregon I had my suitcase stolen from my car. I had two costumes, all my make up, costume jewlery, two cover ups, camera, and tips walk away with someone. I am not sure if this is the right place to post something like this, I am in a bit of shock right now. I don't have pictures handy, but I am hoping they might show up somewhere and I will magically get them returned. So I guess this message would be mostly for NW dancers; Please keep your eye out for a one of a kind green and gold coin costume (made with real antique Greek coins) and a flashy red Hannan.
I will post pictures later.
I am sad...

If you have theft on your auto insurance policy you can file a claim with your company once you have filled out a police report. I know it won't replace the loss of beloved costumes but the monetary compensation will allow you to buy new sparkly costumes. Also with most theft claims your premium will not increase.

Oh, Aziza, I'm so sorry this happened to you! :(

Small consolation, but I'm a big believer in Karma, so that thief better watch out...! And the other thing I believe in is our Bhuzzers!!! I think it's a good thing you posted here and put us all on the lookout/alert.

Oh, how awful.

If the suitcase was stolen by a passerby rather than a dancer, they won't know WHAT to do with the costumes, but they may turn up on e-bay.

To add to what Tanya said, if you dont have theft on your auto insurance, you can also try to file a claim under your homeowners. I had my car broken into over a decade ago and they told me that I didnt have special protection with my auto insurance, but that my homeowners would cover it (which it did. . . i think I got about 70% of the value of the items, which was better than nothing).

((hugs)) Having things stolen feels so awful!

You also might try posting signs in the area and ask for the return of the items. If I recall Sabine did this last year and managed to get back a stolen sword.

Too bad, shame on those thieves! Did they smash your car windows to get in? That happened to someone at a bd event I attended earlier this year. People were coming and going from the parking lot but somehow they smashed a vendor's windshield and stole her GPS unit from the dashboard!

Sorry to hear about your costumes!

Re: Stolen Costumes....:(

I've already posted it on mine. Facebook has a bigger reach than Bhuz -- spread the word!

Aziza, I'm really, really sorry. You've been such a kind and generous inspiration to so many of us in this dance -- it's awful for this to happen to anyone, but it seems especially cruel for it to happen to you. Let's hope whoever did it comes to his or her senses and returns everything soon! Big hugs for you.

Re: Stolen Costumes....:(

So sorry to hear about that after you gave such a great workshop over the weekend!

I really hope you're able to get them back or at least be compensated for the costumes. I think it would be hard for anyone in the local Portland scene to dance here with one of your costumes, I think we'd turn them in. But we will be on the lookout all the same.

Re: Stolen Costumes....:(

Sooo sorry to hear this has happened. Hate to write this but it needs to be mentioned if there is any possibility. Most individuals/thieves will not place the same value we as dancers know the costumes are worth.

The intent is to take the jewelry & cash, toss the rest into the nearest large dumpster and run like heck. Please take the time to look into large dumpsters in the vicinity before the garbage man comes by.

Again, my apologies and hope all is returned or the thief experiences the karma following them.

I just can't believe another dancer would steal from such a well-known dancer and someone so admired in this small community. Aziza, I'm so sorry to hear! Isn't the red costume on your website? I hope you find your things or you can replace them with even nicer ones. They are so pretty! How awful!

Re: Stolen Costumes....:(

Hi, Aziza!
It's Ana, from Portugal. I hope you remember me :-)
I'm so sorry about what happened to you. It's the first time I have the opportunity to see you on Bhuz and unfortunately just to know about this terrible situation.
It's the second time I see someone on Bhuz complaining of having been stolen. Exactly the same: a suitcase from the car. I thought that kind of things were more usual in Portugal, but from what I see it's becoming usual everywhere... But generally, it doesn't happen so often to hidden things.
I'm almost sure the person who did it knew you had costumes inside the suitcase. It's something valuable which can be easily sold...
I hope you find all your belongings soon!
Take care,
Ana

Re: Stolen Costumes....:(

Thank you, everyone. I want to make it clear that this did not happen at the dance event and I am sure no other dancers were involved. I am visiting my home town while on tour. This was a borrowed car, I left the suitcase in the car after the show. I know better, I was just giddy from the show and seeing my friends and had a lapse of judgement. This actually happened to me about 15 years ago. I had the costume returned to me a year later. A dancer found it in a second hand store in the window. They were selling it for $60 as a holloween costume. I don't know if I will be as lucky this time.

I appreciate you all keeping an eye out. Both costumes are great...but the green one is very special to me.
Off to buy make up,
Aziza

Re: Stolen Costumes....:(

OMG Aziza, I am so sorry.... Apart from that you feel a loss, you also feel violated the same way someone would burglarize your house. I felt exacty the same way when 1/2 of my luggage was stolen including several hundred dollars worth of French perfume and jewelry by the airport employees. It is awful! I am sending you hugs...

I really do not understand people who do this, but I do believe Karma is a b itch and eventually they will get what's coming to them. Whoever did this will pay dearly if not now, then later.

Hugs,
Amani

So sorry aziza! I hope you get your stuff back. It wouldnt hurt to put the word out in the vicinity of where the items were stolen (without mentioning how vaulable the cossies are). My briefcase was once stolen from my car- a "good samaritan" sold it back to me for one hundred bucks! : (
