Cool Live Music Workshops in NYC

Hey all,

Again, I'm posting this for Ranya...these are some terrific live musician workshops that are happening sort of in conjunction with the Shareen El Safy event - they're musicians who will be performing at the show:

Greetings!

This weekend in New York City I'll be teaching some Egyptian dance workshops with great musicians, and hope you can make it! We do have space; please RSVP if you can. Scroll down for registration details. These musicians will be part of our great 6-piece Arabic band at the Holiday Gala on Thursday November 29th!

Fri. Nov. 16 6:30-9:30pm Drum solo & Dancer-Drummer Communication, with Ranya & Egyptian drummers Gamal Shafik (tabla) & Said Fahmy (dof) (will be held at 440 Studios, studio 4C-- enter through 436 Lafayette St. (just below Astor Place), go to 3rd floor and cross over to other building) FEE: $65 paid by Nov. 15; $75 after or at door

Sat. Nov. 17 12:30-3:30pm Accordion taqsim beledi work + drum solo practice with Ranya & Egyptian musicians: technique and musical progressions, with Nabawy (accordion), Gamal Shafik (tabla) & Said Fahmy (dof) (will be held @ Lafayette Grill, 54 Franklin St., btwn Broadway & Lafayette) FEE: $65 paid by Nov. 15; $75 after or at door

Also Saturday, 4:00-5:00pm Optional performance critique slots for solo work (contact Ranya if you are interested in a slot-10 min. each-time to dance one of the two major types of taqsim beledi with the musicians and receive feedback-additional fees apply) All are welcome to stay and watch!
NOTE: Currently these critique slots are full-- contact Kisha at kisha330@hotmail.com to be added to waiting list if we find we have extra time

Sun. Nov. 18 4:30-7:00pm Saidi music, rhythm & dance workshop with Ranya & Nikolai Ruskin (nay, mizmar, rababa, drum); dancers will work on steps, understanding of maqam, singing, and optional hand drums, cymbals, and cane combinations, to the famous Saidi piece "Dayati Mali (Binti Baida)". A festive performance piece will be created, and participants are eligible to perform in the group piece for the Nov. 29 show (some additional rehearsal may be required for show participation, but you may participate in the workshop even if you don't wish to dance in the show). FEE: $55 paid by Nov. 15; $65 after or at door
Will be held @ Lafayette Grill, 54 Franklin St., btwn Broadway & Lafayette.
Salads and appetizers menu items will be available if you wish to order something at Lafayette for the break.

PACKAGE DISCOUNT:

For all three musician workshops Nov. 16, 17, 18:
$150 paid by Nov. 15; or $185 if paid at door on first class.
