I need a Melaya Leff

Little Egypt in Dallas has a number of them. Dee dee just brought back a custom one for me from Egypt. Beautiful!!! I know she has a number of the dress and veil in stock.

Yes, I did contact the bellydance store but I assumed they were out since I had asked about Melaya dress and the one that was in stock was one size too small. I guess I should have asked about the leff but I will contact Dee Dee first since she has the dresses? Thanks!

yeah, absolutely check with her, but call shahrzad too, some leffs may not have made it on the website yet.................i think i saw 3, but that was a cursory look, so may be a couple more

You know, the melayas look pretty easy to make. They would appear to be a simple opaque nylon black fabric, that's enhanced with coins, sequins (but wouldnt' really even have to be enhanced.)

I also decided not to buy a melaya dress in Egypt because I was thinking you could get the same effect by buying a hoochie-mama dress in a teeny-bopper store and maybe adding some more bling to it. I mean, is that acceptable?

If you need a melaya leff itself, just buy three and a half or four metres of stretchy black fabric (stretch is better) and if you have time, decorate. Mine is made from a ribbed knit that my teacher got off the bargain table - anything like that will do - and it has silver paillettes three deep around the edges and down the middle. Voila, and people always coo and ooh and ahh over it. And yes, any hoochy mama dress will do.

I already had hoochy-mama DOWN before I even started bellydancing. Just kidding. :-) but I do have a red leopardskin mini dress that was just part of my normal wardrobe before.

Anyway, zumarrad - I just figured out that you are suzycat on LJ, is that right? neat...I am Nepenthe. But I don't read the bellydancing community anymore because my company blocks livejournal. And tribe. However, they haven't figured out to block Bhuz yet thank god.

That's a great idea! I think I'll do that, because I just need a practice one for right now.
