ISO bronze costume fixin's...

Okay, so I bought a bra and belt on eBay and it came in the mail today. I took a look at it and thought, "Now what?" It needs some repair, as in a row of the fringe on the back looks like fence that is missing quite a few slats. There is some sequin issues and from what I can tell they aren't the shiny type...they have a satin finish. I could use a good supplier for these kinds of components because I'm SOL on eBay. This costume looks pretty darned old...it's a classic Egyptian style and I'd love to resurrect it. Thank you everybody!

For sequins, try Cartwrights. They've got an amazing selection including sequins with a satin finish. Here's a link: Cartwright's Sequins, Beads, Buttons & Glitter

As far as fringe goes, you might consider simply replacing the fringe instead of trying to match the beads and fill in the holes.

Cartwright's is great for sequins - but for beads there is a better selection and prices at shipwreckbeads.com

I agree with Shahla that it might be easier to just replace the fringe - hard to match beads exactly.

Hmmm...I think you're right about replacement. However, I took the fringe off of it last night and I think I'll be able to salvage enough of it to go around. :) I had a really unpleasant surprise though....the costume REEKED! It smelled like it had been 'rode hard and put away wet.' I know, EWW. I did a no-no and carefully washed it in lukewarm water and baking soda plus a healthy dose of odo-ban. Then, I blocked it because the bra cups needed it anyway as they were misshapen. This morning everything seems to be alright and thank goodness that horrible mildew/b.o. odor is gone! Now, on to Cartwrights!

Oh man, bummer about the odor. If it lingers after completely dry, try spraying a 50/50 mix of vodka and water on the inside liner. Or, Febreeze works too. Some people don't wash their costumes, but I have always gently hand washed mine with some woolite and have never had a problem. You might also just replace the liner with a nice fresh new one.

Yes, as you have to take the lining out in order to rebead, definately replace the lining. this will help with the odor issue.

Oooh, I'd love a nice flannel lining (and a little padding, heh, heh, heh.). I couldn't believe how bad that thing smelled! I'd love to tell you who sold it to me but that would be mean!
