Looking for Dresses
Hi everyone!
I'm looking for two types of dresses:
1) Fifi style beledi dress (open to something that is loose and cotton-like material, or tight and lycra)
2) elegant cabaret style dress, kinda like this:
Size 14(?), limited budget :)
I've really got some specific ideas about what I'm after, and I might have to end up making what I really want....but I thought I'd at least try here first.
email is best: joanneraks at yahoo dot com
Thank you!

Thanks for looking out for me! I just saw it too... and unfortunately, it's too small... otherwise I'd snatch it up!

Re: Looking for Dresses
Here is a blue dress I have been trying to find the right owner for. It will fit a size 14 (US Size) - the dress has amazing stretch. I wore it when I was a 14, a 12 and a 10.

I may just have to tackle it with needle and scissors and turn it into a bra/skirt costume. I have been toying with the idea for a while now.

Yep, I think I just have to reinforce the underbust with non-stretchy material and then create a nice, neat waistband. I will probably move the skirt around so the slit is on the side. Although, I am now a size 6 and have not tried the dress on in over a year so I should probably do that and see how it fits now. It may just be too big to even make that feasible!

Re: Looking for Dresses
Joanne, I really, really love that beautiful black and gold dress on you! Any hot tips on where to find something similar?
I've got a heavily beaded Egyptian cabaret dress in purple lycra that should fit you. (Stretches to accommodate an 18, but a 14 or 16 would be a happier fit.) It's out with a friend for a try-on at the moment, but if that sounds like something you'd be interested in I can e-mail you if it comes back to me.
I'm also seriously considering re-selling a brand-new Eman Blue Magic dress from Dahlal that's probably not going to work out for me. (Photos on her site.) It's on the pricey side, but I take installments.
Happy hunting!
Suzana

I have a black dress I have been thinking about selling. How tall are you? I am 5'5 ish and it is almost too short for me.

Re: Looking for Dresses
Tahira - I'm 5'1" - though I'm not opposed to hemming if necessary
Zana - I'm interested, photos please, when you can! Thanks for the compliment on my dress. I purchased it from Lost Treasures in Seattle. Kind of a funny shopping story: I got frustrated with their inability to adaquetely describe their inventory over the phone, and all the good ones getting sold too fast, so I found out what date they had a shipment coming in and I flew there from Sacramento in the morning, bought two costumes, and flew home that evening. I think the flight was one of those amazing $40 roundtrip Southwest deals or something. It was a great day.
Damiena - It's almost but not quite for me. :( Sorry, I hope it finds a good home, or maybe it will stay with you? :)

Re: Looking for Dresses
Hello Joanne!
I have this one:
LimeGrnDrsHA
It's a brand new Hanan. It's very stretchy, too.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Michelle

Re: Looking for Dresses
Michelle - what is the length from shoulder to hem? Do you know what the max waist measurement is? Does it come with a veil by any chance? Thank you for posting!

Now that's dedication! Love it!
I'll definitely send pics if I get the dress back. But wow -- Mikayla's Hanan is so pretty, and I bet the color would be great on you. If I had any prayer of fitting into it, I'd be all over it myself.

Re: Looking for Dresses
The length from the top of the bra to the hem at the bottom of the dress is 49". The maximum hip size is about 46".
Sorry, it does not come with a veil.
Let me know if you have any other questions. It's really a gorgeous dress!

Re: Looking for Dresses
Hey Joanne!
I took a look at the dress last night and there is a fairly solid line of beading at the bottom, so off hand I would say that it's not a candidate for shortening. I am sorry!

Re: Looking for Dresses
Mikayla - it sounds like the fit would work well.... I'm hesitating though.... I seem to be re-thinking my whole request for cabaret dresses (still want earthy beledy dresses!) I actually tried on the two that I have - both are similar in style - and to my surprise, they fit! I thought they wouldn't.... So I have some current performance options, I'm just not feeling inspired by this style, even though it would be great to dance in while I'm heavier..... I think I over-used this design already and am hungry for a fresh style. :( Sorry to be wishy-washy everyone. I'm still mildly interested in seeing whats out there... I guess an earthtone would really pique my curiousity.
