Looking For Practice Gear
Hi, I am new to this site (it's wonderful!!) and am a beginner dancer. I am looking specifically for Gypsy-ish style (tie front, long sleeve) choli tops and a black pants with a flar-ish leg to practice in. Not a really full leg like the tribal pants, but sort of like the ones on the "Shimmy" program on Fitness t.v.
I have checked the swap meet section here and searched all over ebay and the web but to now avail. Maybe I'm not using the correct terminology (I am so totally new at this) Also a good source to find beaded hip scarves/belts that are not as loud as the coin hip scarves would be most helpful. I want some movement and swing but a bit less noise for classes.. Thanks, you guys are all so supportive and helpful.

For the tie-top, look no further than Sharifwear(there's usually an ad-link in the right hand column here)

Re: Looking For Practice Gear
you might like flared leg or boot cut yoga pants for practice.
you can get those in the exercise wear department of most sporting goods stores

Re: Looking For Practice Gear
hip scarves with beads and fringe work well for sessions less harsh on the ears :)

Re: Looking For Practice Gear
I have a few used gypsy style items that need to go. I am in the process of taking pictures but most of the items I will be adding are not so gypsy like (mostly kutras and Salawar Kameez). I love to dress up :-)

Another good source for practice wear is L Rose Designs at Welcome to L. Rose Designs
They can make custom workout wear in the exact size, color, and style that you like. They have different sleeve styles for the cholis. They also have hip scarves without coins, though theirs aren't beaded, they're just rayon fringe.

Re: Looking For Practice Gear
Watch the swap meet here for deals. Are you looking for new, nearly new? What sizes?

Re: Looking For Practice Gear
Beatrice already mentioned it, but I second SharifWear... I have loads of their stuff and it lasts through quite a bit.

Re: Looking For Practice Gear
Wallie World is carrying some nice pants by Athletic Works for about eleven bucks. You could turn the waist band under to shorten the rise and it would look alright because it's usually covered by a hip scarf or belt anyway. I bought a pair and totally remade them (gees, should have bought a pattern and some fabric, hah!)...dropped the waist band and split the side seams up to the knee and added a stretch lace godet. Flared, but not too much. If you sew, you can make your own tie front tops too (they are so easy). Simplicity has a 'belly dance' packet of coordinates. I've made the skirt (their calculations were off for the tiers) and the choli pattern gapped at the neck so I had to fold the pattern piece to shorten the neckline but the tie neck top pattern is great!

Re: Looking For Practice Gear
L. Rose & Sharifwear are the first ones I thought of, too.
But you might have some luck searching dancewear sites for jazz pants. Only a few have flared legs, but they tend to be less expensive than the bellydance-specific ones. I like discountdancesupply.com a lot.
