ISO Fifi vids and Baladi dresses/galabeyas/caftans
Hey everyone,
This may be a stupid question, but does anyone on here own any sort of Fifi videos/dvds (instructional or workshop, if there is any. Regular clips and movies I can go to youtube.), that they're willing to sell? (ready for the fire.)
Probably not, so if anyone has some suggestions of where to find vids like these, that'd be great too.
And while I'm doing this ISO, I'm also looking for baladi style dresses, galabeyas and/or caftans. I have someone who can make them, but it may be cheaper to just buy them. At this point, I'm not to picky in color. I'm a size L-XL, D-cup. Post here and/or PM me if you have anything.
Thanks!
BDF

I have a Fifi video, it's kind of a compilation of shows she has done over the years.
I have a red/gold paillette dress, if that's the kind of thing you are looking for. It's a good quality and size XL. It doesn't fit me anymore, but it's in great condition. It has rows of paillettes over a semi-sheer fabric that is shot with gold, maroon and red. There's a photo of me wearing it here, but it's in black and white: Picasa Web Albums - Middle Eastern Da... - MEDGE Fall Fe...

Re: ISO Fifi vids and Baladi dresses/galabeyas/caftans
I think last year's Dallas workshops were the first time Fifi ever really taught a class, so the footage from that -- or from this year's, when it becomes available -- might be the only teaching video of Fifi.

The 2007 Little Egypt Fifi workshop videos are the only ones I have heard of (Fifi workshop, that is.) They are a fabulous resource but keep in mind that she doesn't do a lot of breaking things down although she will repeat the same move over and over again and point it out to the participants or do it two different ways "same but different" as she says. And she does talk here and there--sometimes in English and sometimes in Arabic (which is translated for us.)
The Mona "From the Heart" workshop videos (also from Little Egypt) are also a wonderful resource. Mona's English is excellent and very clear. She does stop and break things down a bit and goes into detail when asked. Like Fifi she does "same but different".
You might also like the many Aida Nour videos that are available from Little Egypt.
All three of these video series bring tears to my eyes to see women of my age group and size looking happy, glamorous and in complete joy while dancing.

You know I love Aida and have tons of her stuff. . . but I just positively swoon over Mona!! If you get the workshop vids from Little Egypt, you might want to throw in the Saturday night show . . . Mona just smokes!! But skip over most of the cheesy stuff with the band. LOL, I had a friend make me a DVD copy of only the good stuff so I can watch it over and over.
And Mona wears a white galabeya too . . . although her other costume choices are a bit racier.
If you want plain galabeyas you can check with LIttle Egypt too. I got a couple of stretchy sparkly ones from Hanan on this last trip to Egypt . . . very comfy to dance in and packed up nice and light for the trip home.

Looks like Little Egypt is the "it" resource. Thanks, ladies! I'll take your advice.
Appreciate it!

Catherine, I know you love Aida cause I see you in all my Aida workshop tapes!
I don't have any of the performance dvds but guess that is next. Love those galabeyas. I have a fuscia one from DeeDee. So lightweight and the fabric is so comfortable. Also have a man's white cotton one that I bought from a guy in Oman. I puts some darts in the front and back to shape a little bit more, roll the sleeves up and go.
Can't wait to see the Fifi videos from this year. She and Mona should have a smokin' hot dance-off!

Now that would be something . . . Mona vs Fifi . . . but I am not sure you can get these 2 divas in the same room together .
I am still imagining what it is going to be like with both Randa and Dina in Dallas this August!

I may be interested in the Fifi video. The dresses aren't quite what I'm looking for. Thanks anyway! PM me with details on the Fifi vid whenever you get a chance. Thnx!

Yeah, Mona and Fifi hands down! Well, at least in my opinion. Dina has really grown on me. But Mona and Fifi....goddesses.
