ISO Dyeable white silk skirts...

Does anyone know if these exist? Dharma has rayon skirt blanks. I don't sew, but would like to dye my own silk skirts.

I think you will have a hard time finding these, because if they are not sewn with silk thread, the thread won't pick up the dye. And it's not usual to sew clothing with silk thread, because it tends to be stronger than the fabric and not "give" when it should.

Thai Silks may have a few things, Thai Silks - Imported Silk Fabrics.

All I can say is "Me to!" - ie. I have not been able to locate any. I'd pounce on that in an instant!

I'm assuming you're looking for a dance skirt? One used to be able to order white silk circles skirts ready to dye from Nahari. Just beware that her skirts are a simple full circle skirt, not the professional one and a half circles. They aren't very thick either at 8 momme, so don't expect these to be particularly durable. 8 momme is fine for a scarf, but hardly garment weight!

I don't know if they still sell the white skirts or not. Their website is absolutely dysfunctional! But it wouldn't hurt to try to communicate with someone over there and ask.

I could make you one...but it might take awhile...im going on vacation soon. I don't use silk thread... I use all natural cotton. It dyes well with acid dyes, but not sure about anything else

I think Nahari is always on the road with Adnan..at least when I took the Sufi workshops way back when , they were always touring. If you email her site she may have someone taking care of business while she is away. Yes, if she still makes them (I've seen them in person and danced with them) they are 5 mm or possibly 6 mm straight skirts, no slits or panels like circle skirts.

Am keeping fingers crossed that I'll be dyeing panels for skirts again in fall but I dont think I'd be a very good supplier of blank white stuff..too much trouble. You may find a local seamstress to work with and see if she would sew them for you.. go to Shira's site, she has excellent instructions.

Dharma and thai silks both carry 8 mm silk which would be a decent choice for a skirt but consider you may have to have a lot of it for the skirt to spin out..usually they are a bit limp. Charmeuse silk is really pricey but is gorgeous.

Cotton thread dyes well with acid dyes? Which acid dyes?

In my experience acid dyes wash right out of cotton. Acid dyes affect protein fibers, not cellulose.
