why are the prices so much cheaper than retail?

also I'm interested in picking up cs2 or cs3..will i be fine with an older version or cs2? What I'm needing to do is basic photo editing to create more backgrounds for the website. Erifily does my website and just sent me a disk with all the files on it..right now the backgrounds so far are psd format and the stuff i have on the computer now (microsoft editor and paint) won't open the psd files. (she's probably sleeping right now so I'm asking you guys :)

so if i buy and download cs2 will that be all thats needed to do this? i want to change the background images..she told me they are in layers.

When I was looking to buy a video camera, I found some online sellers whose prices seemed insanely low. A guy in one of my film school classes (who has been a still photographer for years, so he was very familiar with the ins and outs of buying equipment) warned me that there is what he called the "gray market" in electronics, camera equipment, etc. -- sellers whose products are actually versions made to be marketed in other countries or other such things. Sometimes the products are fine, but if anything goes wrong, getting repairs may be very difficult, so you're taking a chance.

I don't know if that is the case with this seller, but if it seems way off, I'd be careful.

I use cs2..and I am a professional photographer and it works for all my needs..

oh and yes..you can open psd files in cs2....that is how I do all my stuff....

The prices are cheap because you're just downloading the software. So if anything goes wrong with the software you don't get technical support, and if anything happens to your computer, you don't have the disc to re-install photoshop.

ahhh but once it's saved to your computer can you from there make a copy on disk to save?

All my alarm bells are ringing loud, that sounds extremely fishy to me! I would avoid a source like this. This is most certainly a violation of copyright law. Admittedly, given how much software usually costs, my bargain and my ethical side would fight pretty hard!

am assuming there is a main website where i can download right away and get instant gratification? if i have to wait for shipping i'm likely to get bored and not want to do it once it arrives :)

looking at the website, it seems to me that he's illegally selling downloadable versions of photoshop, probably with a key generator or self generator verification code. Adobe would never sell their product for this price without mentioning it on their own website.

If you want a legal version, don't spend money on this. You won't be able to file the receit for tax reduction, in fact I think it's highly unlikely that this guy actually pays taxes over the products that he sells. Or copyright fees. In fact, seems to me that he's downloading illegal copies for free from somewhere, then selling them to people who don't know how to find these downloads for free.

I work with graphics in publishing and photoshop CS2 will be more than adequate to the needs that you describe. However, it is reknowned for being pricey to get hold of so I'd take any 'budget options' with a slight pinch of salt.

By the way, you can work in CS2 with a PSD file (best for layers) but you can save out a 'flattened' version as well as the PSD if you need a quick reference image.
