Paypal issues

I was not sure where exactly to post this, but...

I set up my paypal a long time ago, but recently I have notice that people are alway commenting that I "sent an e-check" as if there was a different way to send the money. My paypal is connected to my account, which is the way I thought all paypal accounts were set up. I know you can also connect it to a credit card. Am I doing something wrong?

Re: Paypal issues

I've been wondering the same thing. Whenever I click the 'send money' button it autimatically does an echeck instead of immediately paying people. This is the only way I know how to use paypal, but it takes so long to clear. Hopefully someone can explain this...

Re: Paypal issues

I think you have to have a confirmed bank account and/or confirmed credit card to get a payment to someone instantly.

Re: Paypal issues

This happened to me recently, when I bought a hipscarf off eBay.

I was usually able to pay them instantly, and then everything I sent was a stupid e-check!

When you buyer goes into Paypal, they need review the payment details on one of th pages before they send it.
Paypal asks what kind of payment they want to send, and they have to make sure the 'dot' is in the right payment options. (I think it's on the page where they ask if it's a credit card)

Paypal somehow, moved my 'dot' to another option. Now I make sure it's on the direct transer option.

Gee I hope I'm making sense, I swear I'm not drinking anything but water!

Re: Paypal issues

In order to pay with a credit card you have to add the card to your account you have to click the "add funds" button on the upper right hand corner of your screen.

Enter the information you want and then itll add your credit card.

Be careful though by defualt while making a payment online it will automatically select the "echeck" or "transfer from bank account" option unless you manually change it during the transaction. Youll have to click the "select funds" or choose funds" button during the transaction or it will default to the bank transfer...

Also, you if you pay via bank transfer the seller of the item does not get charged a fee to accept your payment whereas if you use a credit card they get charged extra.

Not exactly. If you have a personal account, you can receive a certain number of payments; receiving these incurs no fee if it is an instant transfer or echeck, but incurs a fee if it is via credit card. If you have a business/premier account, all receipts incur a fee at the same rate.

Anyone who is selling on ebay and is accepting paypal is supposed to accept any form of paypal payment. Sellers who break the rule are generally trying to avoid upgrading to the premier account.

Re: Paypal issues

I think there's an area that lists 'funding options'. You can click on your choice. I always have to proceed slowly in that area, some sellers do not want to wait 3-6 days for an echeck to clear. Of course an echeck will usually delay shipments. So much for immediate gratification.

Re: Paypal issues

Okay so let me get this straight, I can still pay from my account, but I have to pay attention and look for the "choose payment option" and choose to pay directly before I send the payment. Do I do this each time I send a payment?

Re: Paypal issues

I've had this happen when I didn't have money in my PayPal account and wanted to transfer a large amount (over $700) to someone. The system absolutely wouldn't let me do anything other than an e-check. Even though my bank account is verified, I couldn't use anything other than an e-check. (Credit card should have worked, though.) I even called PayPal and the support person said that the system automatically tags certain payments as e-checks. He couldn't override it for me.

If there's enough already in my PayPal account to cover the amount, it's never a problem. I think this happens because of the delay in getting the funds from your bank.

Re: Paypal issues

I think the e-checks are popular with Paypal because of the float time (the delay in payment). Any time there's float time, someone else is making money from your money...

Exactly, which is why my shoppe doesn't accept American Express
anymore. 7-10 days for my money to be deposited into my account? No thanks!

Hi, Kiyaana,

What number did you call to talk to a live person on PayPal? I'm dialing the general questions number 402-935-2050, and I get trapped in telephone menu hell. Here's my problem. I have never used PayPay before, I found an item on the swap meet that I want to purchase, and the seller uses PayPal. So I go out to PayPal and try to set up a new account. When I filled in all the fields and hit submit, I got a message telling me that an account existed, and asking me to enter my credit card info to verify who I am. This is really freaking me out, and I want to talk to someone at PayPal about it, but I can't seem to find an option on the menu tree that will actually connect me with a person.

Any alternate phone numbers you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Also, can anyone tell me if I need my own account? If the seller has an account with PayPal, can't I just use my credit card to pay her?

Thanks,

Sylvia
