Editing/shortening an iTunes song ?
Hi,
I bought some songs from iTunes with the hopes to use them for class choreographies. I want to shorten or choose small sections of all of them. The problem is that I have tried with our editing program and iTunes has something embedded that prevents me from doing so. Does anyone know how to do this if it is at all possible? Or is there another place to purchase mp3's in the future where I will not deal with this? I am frustrated because I already bought these.
Thanks for your help.
Lisa

This is what I do, even though it is not the greatest path, environmentally: Burn a CD, rip it into mp3 format, and edit the mp3s. Creative minds will make coasters or jewelry out of the wasted CD ...

Re: Editing/shortening an iTunes song ?
I usually use Audacity to edit and then export to mps and import to itunes. But there are other ways.

Ditto. This removes the copy protection. I didn't know Audacity would edit the protected files, though!

You can also look for the iTunes Plus when you are purchasing. Not available on every song though but they cost the same and you shouldn't run into that protection issue.

Re: Editing/shortening an iTunes song ?
This is what I do:
1. convert itunes song to mp3 by using one of many free mp3 converters (I'll have to check when I get home if you want recs for what I use; can't remember the name of the program)
2. use Audacity to edit song
3. if necessary, import new edited song back into itunes.
This eliminates the need to burn the song to cd!

Re: Editing/shortening an iTunes song ?
There are positives and negatives to both; I've used emusic but I don't like paying a monthly fee. Sometimes I buy songs, sometimes I don't. If they had the same structure as amazon or itunes I'd do more business with them

I was recently told by a friend of my hubby's that you can pay per song with emusic, for 25 cents a song. Is that not true?

Is this something that you have to turn on or sign up for separately? (The carry over part, I mean.) I like emusic but would like it even better with carry over.

Not sure about that, but I tried to leave and they offered me emusic "Light" for just $4.99 a month. So I stayed. :)

Re: Editing/shortening an iTunes song ?
The standard emusic subscription does not come with roll-over (it must be a VIP feature), booster packs are different. The purchase of a single tune with the monthly subscription comes out at about a quarter a piece. But, unless there is another hidden VIP feature, one can not purchase single songs w/o subscription.

Re: Editing/shortening an iTunes song ?
I'm officially launching later this week: Welcome to Bellydance Downloads!
I'm compiling links for availability of albums through Amazon.com, eMusic, and iTunes. Plus I'm putting together song guides to find multiple versions of common songs.
I still have a LOT to add/edit, but it may be helpful to you in its current state.

Oooh, I LOVE e-music but don't use it enough to justify the full price. Maybe I'll try to leave!!!

Re: Editing/shortening an iTunes song ?
I tried to leave e-music and they offered me the 'light' membership! $5.99 for 15 downloads. But only for 3 months, after that I'll automatically go back to the 'basic' level.

You have a program that will directly convert the itunes file to an mp3? Do share when you have a chance! I thought you could only do that with older versions of itunes. I usually just do the cd method.

Re: Editing/shortening an iTunes song ?
I've just downloaded Audacity and I've been afraid to mess with it. I have the Radio bastet podcasts and I was wanting to burn a CD, then use audacity to separate the songs I wanted. I was thwarted when I got an error message and couldn't burn the CD! Since then real life has impinged on me and I haven't had the time to wrestle with the music... but maybe one of you ladies knows. Is there some kind of setting in iTunes that will allow me to burn a CD of the podcast?
I'm on an Imac G3 600 mHz running the latest Mac OS (leopard, tiger, ocelot, I forget which...)
