How to fix CD sound problems?

Anyone here know anything about channel conversion?

Here's my problem: I have a CD which seems to play ok on most systems (the original). However, I have edited and made copies of certain songs to use in performance, and a couple of times now when I've played the copied cds on different sound systems, half of the music "drops out" (this happens on some sound systems, but not others). A friend of mine told me it had to do with faulty equipment and the music being recorded without a mono backup.

I really like the songs on this CD and would like to be able to use them with confiidence, so does anyone know of any way to fix the problem?

I asked a DJ that I work with about it and he said something about channel conversion in soundforge (which I use), but I can't remember exactly what he told me, and would love some step-by-step help.

Thanks!

basically convert your music to mono, but i don't know how to do that in soundforge. there must be a setting you can change and save your song that way. i have had that happen before and it's because one of the channels in the sound system isn't working, either right or left. drives me crazy because if you have a show and hire a pro sound person, there should not be such amateur problems. but it happens way too often so i'm thinking about converting my stuff too even though i love the stereo stuff. good luck!

Hi Joy,

I don't think mono has anything to do with it. I would make the edits and then import the music into iTunes and from there burn your cd. Newwer cd players can play all sorts of different file types but some of the older ones can't. I have had good luck with iTunes playing on every type of player.

Take care, Rick

Thanks Rick! Please say hello to Helene for me - I'm sending big hugs to you both!

Dear Joy,

I will. Also what I do is to carry an iPod Shuffle and cord when we have gigs. If the sound system has a line in then the iPod is really good to use. I'm sure that everyone has experienced problems with either the cd player not playing the cd because it can't read the file or perhaps it's dirty but having your own iPod works great.

Also I make sure that I have the iPod Shuffle because it looks so cheap that it's not likely to be stolen!

Take care, Rick
