Changes mean no tribe for me! WTF?

So I'm wondering if anyone out there can help or tell me what's going on.

I visit tribe often while I'm at work to take mini breaks using mozilla firefox (Internet Explorer hates tribe on my computer, but mozilla has always worked find). Our company has an all-access pass to the internet, so it's never been restricted, nor has any site, unlike many companies I know of.

Then, our IT dept discovered some Trojan virus and had to shut down 3 of our servers yesterday, which is when I couldn't access tribe anymore. Well, I can, sort of, but I can't see pictures, the format is totally whack, and I can only click into certain tribes (with the whack format and no pics), but others I get this message "Your page is blocked due to a security policy that prohibits access to category
Violence."

What?!! Violence? What's funny is that it will let me view tribes with crazy names like "Foul Drunk and Hostile" or "Mira kicks ass" but it won't let me into "herbal medicine" or other friendly-named tribes.

Can anyone tell me what's going on? Is this just a server thing? If so, once the servers are back up will this problem cease? I'll die without both bhuz AND tribe!
*sniffle*

to mention NO other websites seem to be affected. JUST tribe. Anyone have a thought as to why?
I totally appreciate it!

Hi Trakgrl99:

I just went to Tribe and looked up "herbal medicine" and I didn't have any problems accessing the board.

The message that says: "Your page is blocked due to a security policy that prohibits access to category Violence." means that your company is using a web-filtering software package of some sort. With most of those packages, the company can pick which categories they want to filter out, but when it comes to which sites are in each category, that list is maintained by the software vendor. Your company could probably un-filter tribe, but you'ld have to go to your IT dept and ask for it.

That makes sense, Antimony. Thank you for the explanation! I guess I'm just super confused as to why certain tribes are off limits and certain ones are not. I wish I could go to IT and ask for them to unfilter it, but I have no idea how I'd justify that to them when all it serves for me is a brain break. So sad! Guess I'll just have to wait until I get home to check tribe now.
Thankfully, Bhuz is not violent according to the filter. Let's try to keep all the bellyviolence to a minimum in here, ok people?
LOL!

Umm. I don't know, but your IT department might not want that info sitting out here. Even though your company's name is not listed, those specs might mean someone to somebody.

I wonder if individual tribe moderators set the violence/sexual content filtering info for their tribes? If so, e-mailing the moderators & asking them if it's possible for them to check & reset the filtering info might do the trick.

I work in IT and am in strong agreement with je ateek. That info is confidential and I think you should probably edit your post and remove it.

I just went to check out a tribe I moderate, and it doesnt' offer me the chance to choose setting for violence, sexual content, etc. so I don't really know why some tribes would be OK and some not -- unless it's because of words that are showing up on the page, in the content or the advertising? or maybe tribes in some categories are OK but others not?

It's so weird, because like I said, tribes like "foul drunk and hostile" are ok for me to see, but "herbal medicine" is too violent and gives me the "violent content" message. I don't get it. I wish I were more knowledgeable when it comes to how this stuff works.

What it really means is that some fluke of keywords, content, etc got that tribe added to a specific vendor's "violence" list. It does not have to be consistently violent, it just would have had to trigger their methodology at the point in time that that site was checked.

possibly "herbal" is being filtered due to potential "drug content", and in the IT site filter, it's just lumped together with "violence"
