DVD to MP4 problem
I just ripped a couple of dance clips from a rough cut DVD of my recent show to MP4 format using "DVD ripper for Mac".
After watching the MP4 clips a couple of times, it became very obvious that most of my sharp movement appeared to be a fraction of a beat behind the music. The discrepancy remained very small and constant throughout the video (e.g. the apparent time lag did not increase). It is mostly noticeable on "pops and locks" type movements. Soft movements appear to be in time with the music. Also looking at my feet they are not stepping exactly with the beat in many places.
I was becoming very upset at the prospect that i was dancing so poorly that night. (and thinking, OMG am I one of those people who have no rhythm, and no one has ever had the heart to tell me?). Then I went back to the DVD and the timing problems were not there. My hip drops and feet were all spot on. But if someone were watching the mp4 clips, they would not think there was a technical problem, they would think I wasn't properly catching the musical accents.
Strangely, I have used DVD ripper before and have not noticed this problem.
Anyone have a solution? There are a gagillion file types I can convert to using DVD ripper; at least 5 types of mp4: mp4-mpeg, zune mp4-mpeg, mpeg-4 AVC video format, mpeg-1 movie, mpeg-2 movie, etc etc. I used the first. I have no idea what all these are; I just want something I can upload to youtube.
