Had a great Egypt trip

Just got back from our 12-day trip to Cairo, Aswan, and Luxor. Had a great time! We booked through Hannan's studio in Toronto, the Go Tour Egypt company. They took great care of us. We had a wonderful Egyptologist tour guide -- a warm, funny, and knowledgeable man -- and a friendly young tour leader.

The trip was mostly sightseeing, but we did manage to fit in an hour with Aida Nour, who was very kind to us and managed to teach us an entire choreo to a song by Hakim. We felt really privileged to have her time for just the two of us. Great fun!

I'm planning on writing several entries in my livejournal about the trip... I'll post a link here once that's done, in case anyone feels like reading them.

Isn't Aida just the greatest?? I plan on getting in a class with her while I am in Cairo too . . . and not just the Nile Group Festival class (although I am going to take that one too). I created a facebook group for Aida too "I Love Aida Nour" . . .hehe!

So glad you enjoyed your trip. I know whenever I go that there is always something different to check out . . . and many of the same things still are fascinating . . . Luxor is fab and the 4 days I spent there was not enough . . . and I am still trying to pry myself out of Cairo for that Nile Cruise from Luxor to Aswan.

That is the funniest thing I've heard in weeks! It ranks right up their with Shira's post about attending an Egyptian wedding, only to see the guests doing the macarena!

Re: Had a great Egypt trip

Dare I tell this embarrassing tale about my second trip to Egypt???

Yes, there's always bad Western music to get through before you get to the real music and dance. We considered it "hazing."

But... the second time we went to Egypt, we went to a lot of nightclubs, and one segment that kept appearing everywhere was the Chicken Dance (which they called the Duck Dance). OK, I've led a sheltered life... I had never seen this dance before, and thought it was an Egyptian cultural phenomenon!

One other "musical phenomenon" we encountered was the theme from The Godfather constantly playing on the hotel muzak. My husband and I already had a running gag that at any given time of day, somewhere on American TV one of the Godfather movies is playing... to get to Egypt and hear that music!! Oh dear!!
