Hey guys, I thought I saw a thread about this b4 , but I guess not.

I friend (who lives here in L.A.) & has been searching high and Low for any info. on studying in tunisia. ofcourse she has emailed leila haddad in france, and spoken with aisha ali, but still is unable to get any contact info. for specific teachers in tunisia or dance tours or really...anything.

any info. You could share would be greatly appreciated!

I think they still have the big school there in Tunis. There was an article in Arabesque about it.

Anyone here know how to reach Erin Mrabet of Northern California? She and her Tunisian husband used to go there and study.

That being said, Leila and Aisha would be definitive sources fer sure.

Hi Everyone,

We just had our very first Khamsa Holidays Fest which was held in Tunisia 22 June - 2 July. We offered 20 hours of dancing classes which included a Tunisian dance teacher with live music as well as sight seeing and of course shopping. Joan Kafri from New Mexico, my husband Mustapha (who is Tunisian) and I will be doing it again next year if anyone is interested. A website with photos from this event will be posted soon on our webpage at www.ahlamdancetheatre.com. As soon as it is out, I will surely let you all know!

I haven't been to Khamsa Holidays, but I can highly recommend Khadeja and Mustapha!! I took a workshop with them when they were brought to Florida a few years ago (hmmmm, or is that several??? how time flies!!!). They are both great teachers . . . and they do lots of different folkloric styles and . . . I had lots of fun even if my feet complained a lot afterwards,

I'm always wanting to go to other countries for dance . . . I might need to check this one out!

Nadia Messai in Paris usually does a winter and spring weeklong in Tunisia. Her e-mail is nadiamessai@free.fr and Web site is http://www.nadiamessai.com/htfr/0001.htm - however the site is in French - don't know if you speak it - and doesn't look to have been updated recently. Nadia herself does speak elementary English.

When I went to Tunisia to study language, Habiba hooked me up with a dance connection. She's a wonderful resource!!! I studied with a guy named Tarabulsi who was a/the choreographer for the national folklore ensemble. He doesn't speak any English, by the way.... it was a great chance to practice my spoken Tunisian.

Hello Catherine,

Thank you for the wonderful compliment! Yes, Tunisian Dance is one of our main specialities and since we do go to Tunisia every year, it just made sense for us to start our own dance and culture tour. Our partner in this adventure, Joan Kafri from New Mexico is an expert in Turkish and Arabic/Spanish Andalusian dances. I believe you were referring to Raks Adunya that Libby Parker runs, right? Yep, that was a few years ago...ahem. I will let you know when the next go around is as we are now looking at dates.

Yes, it was at Raks Adunya and I was hoping that Jeannette (in Texas) would bring you over here as she is great friends with Amaya . . . and I know Amaya had brought you to NM too (I couldn't make it to NM so I went to FLA). We seem to get a lot of Oriental styling while the folkloric styles have been languishing a bit. But that could be shifting a bit and I try to support whoever is teaching it because I think it is so important . . . even if my feet hate me, hehe!!

Cool Beans! Yes, Mussi and I were at S&B twice and really had a blast. Amaya is one of my favorite people (she is also pisces
