My Egypt Vid

I have a few of Cairo and stuff, but I uploaded one dance one tonight.

I'm just following the dancer, not dancing-so please no critiques

I just wanted to share what the dinner cruise was like.

So fun! With genuine Egyptian Monkey-Cam footage near the end, even.

Doncha just LOVE the classic Egyptian lounge-singer voice? I can't get enough of it.

You did a terrific job following the dancer. I like the way you move.

She literally fought half of the people on the cruise to dance. Physically dragged them up. Egyptian dancers are tough

I was the only one who got up without a fight. This is the 2nd half of the show. She pulled me up twice.

Re: My Egypt Vid

This was her first costume..I was a bit disappointed. It glowed white and orange under the blacklights which I guess looked cool to most of the tourists.

Me following her:

And this guy was the best of the night. He was twirling in COWBOY BOOTS. Awesome smile.

I don't like her costume. I wonder why with all the great designers there would she wear such a thing. Personal taste? is this what tourist really like to see? anyone know?

All the Egyptian videos have crazy camera work -- strange angles, zooming around, shooting from inside the drum, etc.

Re: My Egypt Vid

What I'm seeing in both costumes is an Egyptian dancer in costumes that have a LOT of coverage. She has no visible skin other than her neck, hands, and possibly her calves. As far as I know (Outi?) the less well known dancers in Egypt are required to stop the slits in their skirts at the knees. This particular dancer may wear the more covered up look to protect herself from harsh "critics" - those elements of her society (remember she seems to me to be an Egyptian, not a foreigner) who will say some pretty nasty things to her about being an Egyptian or muslim woman exposing herself in public and using her body to make money.

Re: My Egypt Vid

Except for the "shininess" of the fabrics, I sort of like the style . . . a good alternative for those who don't want to show everything . . . It could be a different color with some other type of bling and I think it would work nicely.

That was my observation too. I think most of the lesser known dancers wear a LOT more than the big name Egyptians. There was a "seedy Egyptian night club" clip on facebook, and even those girls were pretty covered up. (Even though they were dancing mostly for men)

Re: My Egypt Vid

I never thought of the coverage issue before. It didn't occur to me because her dancing was a bit seedy with a lot of the tourists. Boobie-shakin in their faces or getting them to hold her hips while she shimmied. It was almost all a shimmy show. She didn't really do anything else.
