Shipping charge from Egypt

For those of you who have ordered directly from Egypt, how much did you pay for shipping? I was charged $43 for a 5 lbs. costume, is that normal? If I read the numbers correctly on the stamp (Arabic numbers), it looked like the vendor paid only $20.

Re: Shipping charge from Egypt

If you are getting a "bargain" price on the costume, saying winning on a low bid on eBay, this is how vendors say in India or wherever will ensure they do make a certain something.
I sent a costume to the US from the UK..weight I can't recall but as it was an eman with swarovski stones and beads and packed in a box for safety , the air mail cost was 80$ so I went with surface for 60$ !!!
Psoting overseas for us is expensive.

Re: Shipping charge from Egypt

There are other things than postage to consider for shipping from Egypt. Someone has to go to the post office or shipping office to send the package. This process can take a long time. The shipper has to pay for a sturdy box as well as packing material. It all adds up. The current exchange rate for USdollars to Egyptian pounds (LE) is 5.5 LE per dollar. If the amount on the package was $20, it would be expressed as 110 in LE. If it was $43, then it would be 236 or 237 LE. If your package was shipped express and got to you in only a few days, bypassing customs (meaning you didn't have to go pick up the package and fill out forms), then $43 sounds reasonable to me. As Lizajuk said, post overseas is expensive.

Re: Shipping charge from Egypt

The stamp shows L.E. 120, if I am reading it correctly. When he quoted me $43, I had no problem with it, as it sounded reasonable. But after seeing the stamp, I wondered if their was a hidden profit in his quote. But true, it was rather expedited. Thanks for all your feedbacks.

Re: Shipping charge from Egypt

Hi,

i am from Egypt and i always shippe using EMS ( Express Mail Service).

I think that 5 Ib = 2.267 kilograms

By EMS , they calculate this weight to USA:

Service charge:210 L.E
Sales Tax(10%) : 21 L.E
Insurance fee : 2 L.E
_______________

The total charge:233 L.E

The current exchange rate for USdollars to Egyptian pounds (LE) is 5.48 LE per dollar. So the total = 42.5 $

Re: Shipping charge from Egypt

I paid $75 in FedEx charges to have a custom costume sent directly to me 2 years ago.
