Jennabean, Jenna, Jhip Designs- Silk Fan veils

Buyer Beware

I pre-ordered silk fan veils from Jenna of JHip Designs (Bhuz id: Jennabean), paid Paypal on January 3rd, 2007 after seeing post on Swap Meet on Bhuz. Paid extra for faster shipping to Hong Kong. Have received emails saying fans/shipping postponed for various reasons. Last email said would ship and would send tracking number. Never received tracking number or fans and she is no longer responding to emails. Still have not received fans as of April 30th, 2007.

The same thing happened to me, but when the goods finally arrived I was dissappointed, very frayed edges and not well finished.

re: fans update

Received fans in May. Quality is poor and edges of silk are not cut straight (very jagged!) and frayed with loose threads sticking out. Silk is pretty in colour but unfinished. They look nice from a distance but am very dissapointed with the quality and attention to detail given the price ($65 US plus shipping costs to Hong Kong).

Seller sent a coupon for free glitter or discount off further purchase as thanks for patience. Free gift should have been included as I will not be ordering again. Very unsatisfied with this seller and with the quality of goods.

I got a pair from Faye Austin--Costume seller...

I have NOT heard from Jenna except maybe twice after the shipment came in
I emailed her I sent her messages to tribe...nothing.
I had given up on the idea of having them but then Faye was in Houston and had several!

Faye's Fanzzz

I saw Faye's Fanzzz a couple weeks ago at Power's Conf in Yakima, WA, and played with them - they were great quality and Gorgeous! Gaylene will be carrying, soon - she ordered a bunch from Faye to resell.

Jennabean was vending at Cairo Carnivale, and her tables were across the driveway from mine. I had a clear view of her tables, with fans displayed on them. Lots of people were playing with them, and it looked like she was selling a lot of them. I don't know what her problem is.

She has been posting to tribe.net...other people's tribes. But as far as I can tell not to her Jhip! tribe with updates.
So I dont' know what is going on. Doesn't seem like she has responded to those waiting on tribe either!

I received an offical notice of shipment for mine today and my order was placed in Feb. I know the orders she tried to do in Jan/Feb were where she had all the problems and switched to a different supplier after the first one ripped her off. I have seen several updates on the tribe and i heard she now has just about all if not all her fans in. There are lots of problems starting a new business ladies especially when you can't walk into the place where you're product is being made to check on it, i know its taken some time for the orders to all get filled but she's sending them out as she gets them, the ones she was vending were the ones she ordered to have as stock when she switched suppliers but she can't control which ones get sent to her first. She took a big loss on the first couple of orders which were huge. I'm not saying you don't have a right to be upset but she needs support and patience.

Her biggest error was in taking pre-orders at a time when it was unknown whether the supplier she had chosen, whom she had never done business with before, would deliver a quality product within the promised time frame.

You're right, there can be bumps in the road when choosing a supplier as her situation has demonstrated. But she was essentially using people's pre-order money to finance the launch of her business, and causing them to be unwilling parties to the risks brought about by her decisions of which supplier to use. Customers expect to receive merchandise in exchange for money paid. If Jenna wanted investment capital to acquire her initial merchandise inventory, she should have looked for a loan that could be paid back over a year's time rather than taking pre-orders in hope the vendor would deliver.

Now admittedly, those who chose to order from her probably should have considered that by doing a pre-order they were accepting a significant level of risk, and I imagine that didn't occur to many of them. This situation is a lesson in what can go wrong in pre-orders. They ARE riskier than purchases.

I personally don't plunk money down on a pre-order unless the vendor (and her suppliers) have a proven track record for reliability and timeliness.

We sell and use the silk veil fans and I will say this. If you hem the edges your fan won't flow the same. We sell ours with the edges simply trimmed and when we perform with our fans, we trim them before the show. Up close the fans might look unfinished but we found out the hard way why this is necessary.

Have you tried finishing them with a serger? It won't leave the same kind of bulk as a rolled or folded hem, while still having a finished edge.

YUP!

It's kinda hard to describe but it just makes the edge not flow the same. We also tried sewers edge but that did the same thing. No one can even tell anyway unless you hold the fans and examine them.

We will be vending at the Punk Raqs event (IE MECDA event at Cal State San Bernardino) on the 30th of this month. If anyone is going, please come by and say hi!

I have been wanting some of these but I'm afraid to send money to this vendor. How can I get a hold of Faye Austin to ask if she has any?

You can email Faye at faye@faye4u.com

I just danced with Faye's fans at the Morocco workshop here. Some pics here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mahjan/...7600385006046/

Hey I have a suggestion for the edge of the fans. fray check. it worked on mine. :) doesn’t do to it what surging or normal hemming would do.
