Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
Yay! First post on the new subforum!
I joined Weight Watchers about three weeks ago. I've only lost 3 lbs.
Anyway, I'm having trouble staying on plan and it's not even Thanksgiving yet!
So any current members? Do you go to meetings? E-tools? Both? Let's talk and keep each other motivated to stay on plan.
Thanks,
Andalee

Re: Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
I don't do weightwatchers, but I'll just say in my experience losing 1lb per week is actually pretty good.

Re: Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
I'm on WW, but I am trying not to be too obsessed about it.
In my personal experience it can be very effective. A few years ago I lost more than 60 lbs. But I lost that weight by being kind of obsessed, constantly thinking about what I could eat next, spending a lot of time journaling and calculating points. But when I got tired (after 2 years) of doing that, the weight came back on. And any time I had a gain I got really depressed.
So this time I am losing weight verrrrry slowly, and worrying more about getting fruits and vegetables into my diet, rather than obsessing over journaling and points. I know I could lose faster if I did that, but I don't want my brain taken over in that way again.

Re: Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
1 lb per week is good. WW is very good, I'm a lifetime member now. I've done both e-ttols and meetings, actually I still do every once in a while. E-tools is great b/c it gives you receipes so that you do not have to sit there and calculate points if using other receipe sites.
Is this your first time joining? If yes, I'd say then definitley write everything down, you'll get to understand what you need for your body to function properly. Drinks lots of water, eat green veggies, and fruits, fill-up more on veggies though. Prepare things ahead of time, that always helps, keep healthy snacks on hand, carrot sticks, sliced apples, proportion things out, like nuts, raisins, and the like.
Good luck.
I'll check back in with you. Good Luck.

Re: Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
Hi! I'm not on Weight Watchers, but I weigh 85 lbs on average now, but my doctor still says I'm thin. Anyway, there was a lady who recommended to drink 2 cups of water as soon as you wake up and wait about half hour before eating breakfast. The first item you should eat is a fruit then for the rest of the day, just continue to eat whatever you usually eat and continue your regular exercise program.
I found that after a month, I felt healthier, though I did not lose any weight.

Re: Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
I've been on WW since February, and I've lost 13.5kg (~30 lb) so far. I've not found it easy, but my biggest hint is to keep writing things down, even if you have a blowout day. It helps keep it all in perspective, and I find that still thinking about points value means my blowout days aren't quite as big as they could be!
I had a plateau of about 2-3 months where nothing moved. I was still eating right, still writing everything down, but nada. I eventually started varying my exercise a bit - taking an extra dance class per week and I've just started social volleyball as well, and it seems to have kick-started things again.

Re: Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
I go to the YMCA three times per week when I can. I started watching what I ate, and cut out all the goodies, and have lost about 15lbs by now. When I can't get to the Y, I jump rope and walk.
I really had to wean myself off chocolate, though. But when I go to the 99 cent only store, I treat myself to an ice cream cone.Last edited by gypsydanse; 11-22-2009 at 10:00 PM.

Active on WW? No, but I am trying (good days, bad days)-I am also on the really slow train in losing. Lifetime: Yes (since 1982). At goal: No. I do believe in WW though. The key elements are portion control, moderation, journaling and being active. You don't have to worry about it being a "fad" diet or having to get/supplement with certain foods/vitamins, etc.

Re: Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
I'm on weight watchers and have lost 10 lbs so far following the "simply filling" plan (the one where you don't count points, just focus on eating when hungry and stopping when satisfied and focusing on less processed "real" food). I do it exclusively online and it's working well so far, even hubby likes it and he's not even trying to lose weight. :)

Re: Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
I am also not active on weight watchers but I am trying hard to get a few pounds off and am working through this by doing a program that is put on by the local Y. I had lost eighteen pounds and have put a few back on but worked hard this week and I should be down at least a couple of pounds. I've done a lot of cardio this week and that helps a lot. Sorry for posting here as I am not involved in WW but I need support too!!!!

Re: Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
I did Weight Watchers through work a few years ago, we went to meetings at lunch time here in the building. I was weighing over 244 pounds and I had absolutely amazing results, losing over 20 pounds in just a few weeks. I was actually able to keep it off and lose more just by being more aware of what I was eating, thanks to weight watchers. I am trying to get back into it now and am doing it completely online, but I just find it's hard not having to be responsible to anyone every week other than myself for weigh-ins. So I may have to find a meeting close to me since we no longer have the weight watchers folks come to our building at work.
Journaling really helps alot. It keeps you responsible and accountable and having to write down the really terrible things you ate really feels crummy and you won't want to have to do it again. Right now my biggest problem is not keeping track of everything when I really should be.
I wish you so much luck!!!

Re: Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
I am not a nutritionist and do not pretent to be, but I am a personal trainer and fitness instructor and therefore very mindful of healthly eating. To all the ladies above, please keep in mind, that your body gets accustomed to things, whether it be your workout routine, or eating patterns. In order for the body to get maximum results you need vary your diet or workout, approximately every 4-6 weeks.
Good luck to all of you. The "simply filling" plan can be tricky; it was called something else a few years ago; I eventually went back to counting points instead but it did help me learn my body and how much food I really need as opposed to eating just b/c it's in front of me or b/c "gosh, I just paid $xxx for this dinner out". Hence, why I say this plan can be tricky, as most people in general (not saying any of you ladies posting do), eat the entire portion which is served to them, which is usually 2-3 times more than the portion we should be eating.
It's all in portion control! Good luck!

Re: Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
Simply filling used to be called the Core plan.
I am a follower of simply filling - Its less for me to obsess over rather than points. On WW I've lost about 50 pounds.
I still weigh and measure my food on simply filling in order to keep from over eating but I do not count points except for what I put in my coffee every morning. I make sure that what I eat is also sugar free, flour free, wheat free...all of this is very important to my system as eating anything with flour, sugar, wheat....those foods cause me to binge. I do have an eating disorder which is normally binging..sometimes binge/purge. Keeping foods free of simplified carbs keeps my brain and body free of food cravings.
I love my meetings and I love eTools. WW changed my life and from that I've learned ALOT about myself.

Re: Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
Hooray for another simply filling person! lol
SaNoorah - I totally understand what you're saying about people overeating b/c it's what they're served and I agree that it is a hazard, but WW does suggest that you count points for 4-6 weeks before switching so you get an idea of portion sizes. I've found that I usually eat much less on SF than when I have points b/c I don't feel the need to finish something if I'm full - food will be there later if I'm hungry again and I don't have to guess how much I ate to adjust my points.

Re: Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
I joined WW for the first time when I was about 18. At the time I was about 30 lbs overweight. It helped, it was the only "diet" (I know it's not a diet) that did anything for my weight situation. I currently am not on plan but I remember points like I remember my own phone number, after a while it's just something that sticks to you.

Re: Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
That's it, it was called Core.
Like _Tanya_, I've been doing it for so long that I pretty much know the point value of foods w/o writing them down, but that is because I did journal for years before stopping to, it does eventually become second nature and just sticks to you.
I agree I learned a lot about my body while doing "Core" ("Simply Filling") plan; and I use the techniques now.
Like Tanya said, it's the best "non-diet" diet out there, and it does work to help you change your mindset about food and your relationship with it.

Re: Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
One thing that Weight Watchers has not been able to help me with is BOREDOM EATING.
If I have a slow day at work, or are sitting around in an airport, I tend to snack... like, it's something to do to break up the ennui. I've tried chewing gum instead, but it doesn't quite do the trick. Has anyone here conquered boredom eating?

BOREDOM EATING -
Chewing gum, drinking water, or fruit 2 O, or flavored seltzer, when all else fails, Fat free popcorn, it's at least very low in points.

Re: Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
Hi Andalee,
I'm not currently on WW, but when I was doing the point system a few years ago, I dropped almost 40 lbs in 7 months.... I was pretty obsessed, though.
I kept it off until my pregnancy, and now all is a different story. I'm slowly losing the weight now, but doing it by myself. I will say that WW taught me a lot of good things health-wise that I still follow now.

Re: Anyone actively on Weight Watchers?
My husband did it at work and the accountability of other people really helped him. He did the points thing. He is doing it again now, but he has missed a lot of meetings due to travelling and with eating a lot of foreign food and being away, he has gained some back.
Overall, it works well for him. It probably also helped to have a doctor threaten him. :)
good luck!
