Postpartum Questions - diastasis, and moving again

I am SO sick of not moving! I'm 4 weeks postpartum. Can I start doing some light bodyweight exercises, like squats and planks, and maybe a little gentle yoga?

And related: How do I check myself for diastasis recti? I don't think I have it, but I can't really tell.

    Thanks!

First - of course you can start to exercise. Gently. Justin and I were walking regularly from the time I took him home. Don't go all out and start doing full weighted squats, but light yoga, etc, is great (Shiva Rea has a DVD out for postpartum yoga. As for diastasis recti, you would know if you have it. In fact, if you do have it, you probably had it while you were preggers. Unless you are in a great deal of discomfort, you should be doing a 6 week follow up visit with either you Dr. or your midwife, yes? Ask when you are having your exam. If you do have diastasis recti, the best "cure" is exercise unless it is severe, then surgery might be an option to look at.

Re: Postpartum Questions - diastasis, and moving again

How will I know if I have diastasis? Does it hurt? My abs actually feel strong, beneath the loose flesh. I worked out through my entire pregnancy. But I know that's no guarantee against separation.

If you have diastasis, you would know. Here is a better explanation than I can give:

    Hope that helps!
