A gassy little problem!
Okay, this is embarassing, but I figured that we'll bring up just about anything in Bhuz, so here goes...

I have toxic gas - the silent-but-deadly variety. Seriously, dude, it's bad. I can clear a room with it, and while my fellow dancers have been good about it and making light of how freaking awful it is with light-hearted teasing, it is bloody embarassing! Ido my best to make it to an isolated area of the studio when it's about to hit. I don't always make it, though. I don't want to subject my dance comrades to it, but sometimes I've only got about 1/4 of a second's worth of warning.

I am not lactose intolerant, I have a very balanced diet, get plenty of whole grains and fibre, lots of fruit and veg, etc etc. I don't have any food intolerances (although I don't handle the grease overload from fast food and crappy restaurant food very well). The only thing that I and a couple other savvy individuals I dance with can relate it to is stress. A really bad bout of job-related stress rotted my gut out, and while I got over the last episode and haven't had much trouble since, it's back! ..cr.:
So have any of you tried remedies like probiotic supplementation or activated charcoal tablets? I just started probiotic supplements today and am crossing my fingers, but I need a little hope here!

Re: A gassy little problem!
Have you spoken with your doctor? Also maybe a Naturopath can help you.
I got my husband onto charcoal tabs when he was 'bad' and that did help, so maybe try them first, as well as the probiotics.
Good luck, hope you can resolve the problem easily.

Your body may have trouble processing those whole grains. I have the same problem, it's not an allergy exactly but I'm somewhat :fg: intolerant of wheat.
Taking GasX helps, but mostly backing down on my bread/pasta consumption helps most. Also can't eat things like Slimfast or protein bars without taking a GasX.

I've had very good results with probiotic supplements. In addition to tablet- or capsule-type supplements (in addition to the one recommended by Zepora, there are many varieties available in health food stores.
Also try GoodBelly. It's a fruit juice drink containing probiotic cultures, all natural ingredients -- and actually tastes pretty good!

Re: A gassy little problem!
Eat less meat and cut waaay back on dairy (or cut it out alltogether, its NOT good for you! but thats another thread.) and eat MORE fiber. Also try Papaya Enzymes, they are like Tums in you eat them before you eatfood. Probiotics are also a good idea. I would also do a cleanse and consider an enema.
I had this issue a few years ago (I think my old troupe mates could attest to that LOL!) this is what I did.Last edited by Ahmber; 01-12-2010 at 09:28 PM.

Re: A gassy little problem!
I second seeing a doctor or naturopath if some minor diet changes, probiotics and maybe papaya enzymes don't help you.
My mom has a lot of digestive issues, had no improvements after seeing different doctors, gastroenterologists, and loads of tests. She went to see an acupuncturist and holistic/herbal/Chinese medicine practitioner who put her on some super-strength enzymes and an immunoglobulin supplement, and she rarely has problems now.

Yep, diet beverages, coffee, onions, and garlic can all create gas. ..cr.:

...not to mention wine, beer, cheese, eggs, cabbage, sprouts...
AND stress
Lots of water, lots of exercise and temporarily drinking G&T's instead of wine - so much better!

Re: A gassy little problem!
I started suffering from this when I changed my diet to be all whole food/lean meat. I do not have dairy, wheat..I still have it. I do take bean-o with every meal. It is a digestive enzyme, over the counter, and relatively cheap. Probiotics are never a bad idea. It does help.
My doctor told me to try align, but that stuff is sooooo expensive!

Re: A gassy little problem!
I went to a nutropath cuz I have bad digestion as well.
For me its wheat as well.
but are you SURE youre not lactose intolorent?? I would try giving up dairy for awhile and see....
Also when you eat fruit can be an issue-according to Fit for Life you should not eat fruit on a full stomach-especially if you have poor digestion because the fruit putrifies in your stomach. This program suggests you eat fruit on an empty stomach in the morning.
I would definitely go to a nutripath!

Re: A gassy little problem!
I think it's different things for each person.
I had a fart problem for years - then I switched to eating only food that's supposed to be good for my blood type (I'm a 0) and voilà, it stopped! Now I can always tell if I had something that I can't digest well....
Wheat is bad for me. And I can tell within 15 minutes if there was too much vinegar in a salad sauce... One reason to avoid salads in restaurants, they nearly always are heavy on the vinegar.
You will have to find out what is the right and wrong way for you to eat, a visit to the doctor can certainly help.

Re: A gassy little problem!
I have an odd experience with heating up museli.
It was winter time and I thought I'd try heating up untoasted bircher museli in the microwave. All seemed ok until I got to work where I was constantly "letting it rip"
I think the chemical reaction to heating untoasted museli was producing gasses. I checked out my stool sample and I swear there was tiny microscopic bubbles coming out of it in the porcelain throne.

Re: A gassy little problem!
My boyfriend decided to impress me with a southern-style meal of beans and corn bread. This was after we had eaten Taco Bell for lunch.
Baaaaaaaaad idea. By the end of the night, it practically sounded like we were beatboxing up in there .w.:
So I guess if you don't want to fart, don't double up on the beans!Last edited by SatinWorship19; 01-14-2010 at 05:20 PM.

Re: A gassy little problem!
How did I know you'd say that?

After spending the first week of 2010 with a nasty intestinal bug that had me spending far too much time on the porcelain throne, and constantly clenching to make it back there in time..c::, it's been a relief this week to be able to fart freely without fear...l;,
