Hip Thigh Injury, Need Advice Please :)
While moving a 250 lb piece of furniture like an idiot, I heard something in my hip thigh area pop and crack, then felt searing pain. Went to my doctor and he says it is just a sprain or tear and should heal on its own in a few weeks.
He recommends heat and rest, when I asked him "So no bellydancing?" he laughed until I told him I was totally serious and he said no, no bellydancing...
I am so impatient! I have tried a few exercises and certain ways I move are painful. Doesn't hurt to walk, but it does hurt with certain dance movements.
Has anyone else had anything like this? It's kind of on the outer upper thigh but sometimes the pain travels to the knee.
I am chomping at the bit to dance again but I don't want to make it worse! So I thought I'd ask other dancers about it to see if they have had any similar injury and how long it took to heal :)
Thanks :fg:

I had something similar happen to me when I was performing once. Heard and felt a pop in my hip. I managed to finish the performance, but as soon as I was finished... Wowee was I in pain!
I couldn't walk though, and for some time, one leg was actually longer than the other (probably from swelling). Anyway, it turned out to be my IT (iliotibial) band. It runs from your hip to your knee.
It eventually healed with lots of rest, ice, etc. I was walking again after a few days. When I felt strong enough, I used yoga/pilates/foam roller for rehab. It was probably close to 6 months before I really truly danced on it again. It's been years now, but I'm still careful with it just because I don't ever want to go through that again. I believe it has healed quite nicely though.

Definitely give it time! I had a groin pull about 10 years ago (that started with a pop followed by searing hip pain) that I did NOT baby as I should have, and ended up on crutches a month later (and bursitis that even now comes back to haunt me).
Take care of yourself and hope you feel better!

If you don't give it time to heal, you'll be limping around that much longer.
Work on your zills, upper body and abs, watch videos, listen to music. My teacher had me sit in a chair and use just the upper body for musical interpretation one time when I was having hip issues.

I second, third, and fourth that.
Happened to me when I was 14y, but I thought it was due to my bum hip pre-existing problem, so I never saw a doctor or sought treatment. I couldn't raise my leg up high enough to go up a single stair for 4 years...I was in constant pain, and I limped very badly. It's been more than 30 years -- I have permanent nerve damage.
So rest longer than you think you can stand it, and please don't end up like moi. It sucks.
