    home seltzer/soda maker?

Anyone tried this? I am a seltzer addict--I drink about 6 2-liters a week-- and would love to cut back on the trash my habit produces. Curious about the results. Reviews anyone?

I have one, or a variation. They are great. I don't generally add *any* flavour, just drink the water with a bit of fizz. Tap water in my town is some of the best in the world so I don't need to mess with filters - just fill the bottle, chill if I want, and add carbonation.

How long the bulb lasts depends on how much you drink. I just swap it for a full one at a local shop. They went up to $15 recently but, to compare, I could buy maybe four bottles of fizzy drink for that. Much better value for money and I can put what I want in it.

Take a look at the reviews on Amazon.com. Very mixed.

I've had a Sodastream for years- anybody who was *anybody* had one round here in the mid-80's... ;)
I've had no problems with it (mine's about 7yrs old now), I don't use flavourings either, and I've found it's GREAT for settling queasy migraine-upset innards- it probably shouldn't be, but tis great!
Yup, recommendation here- if mine ever packs in I'll probably cry, I was gutted when it's predecessor (older than me!) finally died after a house move!

Thanks for the reviews. $79 seems like a lot to pay for a gizmo, but when I figure I probably drink half my salary in store bought seltzer it doesn't seem so expensive....pondering...

I have a soda stream too. Very convenient - you don't have to lug the bottles home from the shop, it's cheaper (I think I get about 30-40 bottles out of one gas refill), you can make it to whatever strength you like with the flavouring cordials... Less waste too, as you reuse the bottles hundreds of times rather than throwing them out or recycling them.

When I lived in Germany, I learned that civilized people drink carbonated water ;P Every college kid had a Sodastream or something like that in their dorm room like how American students have the George Forman grill!

I thought they worked fine when I used them, but since returning to the USA, I drink "regular" water.

I love mine. The sodas taste great but are different than the mainstream Coke or Pepsis so if you are attached to a brand you may not like it. The sodas have less sugar than store bought and I like that, there are no high fructose corn syrups used.
Switching out the cartriges is a bit tricky as is getting soda refills. Around here only William Sonoma sells the cartridges but will not take the old ones. I purchase the soda syrup online from Boater's World or Amazon.
