    Diastasis Question

Okay, so, I'm an idiot; I thought I didn't have diastasis recti, so as soon as I felt up to it after having Rosalie (about 4 weeks) I jumped back into working out. Yesterday I did a bunch of very challenging ab work, more than I could actually handle, and then went to my postpartum checkup (I waited a little - 9 weeks instead of 6). Come to find out I have a 2-finger separation. Today, my upper abs are very sore, but not in a good way, and definitely swollen and distended.

Did I mess myself up? What do I do? Just wait it out? This is so typical. Whenever I'm half-recovered from anything - injury, surgery, now labor - I jump all the way back in and push myself, and nine times out of ten I get hurt and end up wasting my time in physical therapy. Crap!

    Re: Diastasis Question

    What did your Dr. say?

Here is my not so scientific opinion: Give it a rest. Enjoy your daughter. Allow your body time to heal. I realize patience is not your strong suit, but this is where it might be helpful to admit that God(dess) has a time table and you have not been made privy to it! ;0)

I would suggest taking 2 weeks off, double check the progress of your healing and then gently and slowly start back into your exercise routine. That way, you will be fully back into the swing of things by 5 - 6 month post as opposed to dealing with PT.

Here is the article I suggested before. Still has a lot of great info: Abdominal Separation/Diastasis Recti ... BeFit-Mom Prenatal and Postpartum Fitness and Exercise During and After Pregnancy

Oh, I am also going to suggest a book which you might find helpful. The Power of Full Engagement. This group trains both Athletes and business men. It is interesting to see some of parallels of some of the things which you have gone through.
