Thread: Who teaches bellydance workout classes?

I'm planning to start teaching them this summer after I take Oreets Sharqui workshop.
Do you have hip scarfs for participants to use? Is the noise from the coins loud and does it get in the way of cueing?

I was thinking about getting ones withour coins or minimal coins....with sequins/palattes.

I don't like coin hip scarfs at workshops... Not everyone will be on beat. That's just me. Now when you're teaching the 3/4 shimmy and the like, you can hear the beat with the coins.....

What about using cheap fringy shawls? Pick some up at the thrift store.....

I teach a weekly SharQui class. I bring noiseless hip scarfs to class. (I don't mind if students wear scarfs with coins, though.) They're much lighter for carrying along. My mother-in-law gets them for me when she travels to St. Maarten (of course you can find them elsewhere). They are made from heavy chiffon (georgette?), are triangular, and have fringe along two sides. Very lightweight!

Does anyonee know where I could get coinless hip scarfs at wholesale?

I teach a cardio BD class called Raqsercise. I don't provide hip scarves for the students, since it's more of a workout as opposed to a dance class.

I recently started teaching a bellydance workout class (and have been a student for a long time :) From what I've experienced for years, most people already bring their own hip scarves. So the instructor bringing them along is more of an exception than a rule (nowadays, years ago when I started learning it was the rule :)) but it could depend on where you're teaching (setting: gym, dance studio, specific to bellydance studio, how long the class has been around, etc) The coins don't really bother me, but I agree, in terms of weight, I'd definitely bring shawls rather than coin ones, if I were to bring any, unless you bring a backpack on wheels, which you see so many instructors wheel around. :)

I teach a weekly BD cardio class - its evolved in the past 5 years from straight on combination drills to involving more yoga and press ups now though. My girls call it "torture" rather than raqsrobics (its first name). However as we do a lot of sit ups etc plain scarves are best - as is a towel/yoga mat for lying on.

I used to bring hipscarves to class... its a burden and it isn't necessary for a workout class.

I do usually offer some for sale though if people show interest
