    Freaking out! Complex Ovarian Cysts

I was just diagnosed with a 2 cm complex ovarian cyst after weird spotting and cramps prompted me to visit the gyno. Of course i started reading about them on the internet and am now all freaked about ovarian cancer. has anyone else suffered from a complex cyst? Did you require surgery? Did it cause any symptoms? I guess they aren't as common as the regular fluid filled type. I have a followup ultrasound in 6 weeks to see if it is gone. ..c::

Ah! So sorry. I had ovarian cysts about 10 years ago, but I don't think it was the same type you have. Did your doctor discuss treatment options? Usually surgery is a last resort. I am pretty sure it can usually be treated with birth control or even better I just read that there is new evidence that in some cases, ovarian cysts are a result of high insulin levels in your blood and having insulin sensitive ovaries . . . it can sometimes be treated with diabetes medications.

Either way . . . relax. I'm sure your doctor will find a way to treat it. In the meantime, Will also keep you in my thoughts and prayers as well.

Oh, and many times these cysts dissolve themselves after several weeks. This is probably why your doctor wants to wait the 6 weeks. Let's hope this is the case . . .

Re: Freaking out! Complex Ovarian Cysts

I've never had the complex kind, just the regular sort. It was just a little one, but boy was it annoying--went on for several months (and it was like three months before it was finally diagnosed--long story) and the worst of it was that it made me nauseated and I could barely eat! If you ever want to drop ten pounds quick, that's one of my unhealthy-but-surefire methods for doing so (another is being dumped terribly, lol).

Oh, but upside? It made my periods much lighter and years later, they are still lighter than they used to be!

Not having read about the complex sort, I dunno if they make you more likely to get cancer and such--the regular ones don't.

Usually cysts (at least the regular ones) do go away on their own pretty soon. Remember that your body forms a cyst every month--it's considered a problematic cyst when it doesn't burst and release the egg when it's supposed to. Many women will have them and not even know it (no symptoms) except their doctor finds it when they're having a pelvic. It's not often that they're something to worry too much about.

I guess complex cysts have solid material in them and are more likely to be malignant. Like 20% as opposed to 1% for a simple cyst. I am trying to be calm knowing that my Dr decided to repeat the ultrasound in a month instead of rushing for surgery. So that is a tiny bit reassuring.... not a lot though.

So, that means there is an 80% chance you're ok, right? Let's hope and pray this is the case! Good luck! Keep us posted.

I love the Mayo Clinic…just saying it's an awesome option when you find out more about your condition. I don't know anything about complex ovarian cysts, but I know what it feels like to be scared and fearful of the future. I will say prayers for you and I hope you find the information you need to not be afraid anymore.

    love, ezma
