September Weight Loss and Fitness Support

so I'm a little early, but my goals that I'm starting now are for September so I figured I could jump the gun 2 days early. :)

I just moved across the country and so I'm starting in a brand new dance community. I'm trying to go to lots of different classes and events to get seen and get my name out there because I want to dance! So I figure FINALLY losing that last bit of belly flab/back fat/whatever will help give me confidence in a new community.

My plan is to count calories (I mean really counting every food label, not just guessing what amount I'm eating, which is what I used to do, watch my portions, and limit my snacking.

I'm kind of excited to do this, because I've never been die hard about dieting, just feeling good. but now I want to feel good about looking good!

I'm going to see how it goes for 2 weeks, and see any progress.

Anything new you guys are doing? Any new food finds that fill you up? protein miracles that are low cal?

Calorie counting is the only way I can lose weight. I "cook" only for myself so I eat a lot of random simple stuff.

2-3 bananas for breakfast works well for me.
Recently I made a spaghetti squash and it seemed to be super filling. I lived off of it for a week.
I also eat a eggs for dinner a lot and sushi when I can afford it.
Tuna pasta salad is also another staple of mine.

Not too much variety, but I am a super busy grad student/belly dance teacher/performer. No rest for the wicked and definitely no time to cook real food. LOL

Ill try to stay away from pasta, potatoes, bread and sugar this month.. Ive thought about trying " ketolyse", people I know have lost 10- 20 kg per month.

You can eat eggs, bacon, cheese, all kinds of meat, some vegetables and a few types of fruit.

There are sticks you can pee on, to see if your body is in "ketolyse".

Its a very expensive diet, but extremely effective. So think Ill try it.

I've done a modified version of the Fat Flush diet and it has worked for me (and cellulite reduced). It recommends using a mini-trampoline so I've been using it and I love it. It seems to be effective.

    I'm baaaacckk....

I was doing well exercising and eating better until I got a summer cold. I stopped exercising and got out of my better eating habits. Grrrrr!

I've decided to join Weight Watchers next week. There's a meeting in my town so it shouldn't be too difficult to get there. I've decided I need to be accountable to someone besides myself and the structure of a weekly weigh-in/meeting might be the trick for me. I did WW about 10 years ago and kept the weight off for about 8 years. The past two, it's been creeping up slowly. I need to get back to some healthier habits.

I'm here to. Been lurking on this thread.

Diet, exercise..these things have been a very emotionally draining thing for me over the past year. Knowing what I need to do, what I have to do, and then binge eating and hiding in my house. I fell into a major depression.

Anyways, now I'm on the right track and have been for about a month. Going to the gym faithfully, eating nutritious food..blah blah blah. Mostly, I've been watching my calorie intake with Fitday, which gives you a daily caloric intake you can do based on your activity level for that particular day.

I'm please to say that I've lost about 5 pounds, so that's pretty exciting for me!

Re: September Weight Loss and Fitness Support

I've been in the classroom (middle school English and Iraqi newcomers) exactly for 1 month (student teaching). During this time, I had no time to exercise and pretty much no time to eat :) I wake up at 6:30, come home at 4 pm, "pass out" from fatigue and take an hour nap (sometimes 2 hrs). My great eating habits were no longer sustainable: eat breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack.
I eat breakfast, (usually I'm rushing and no breakfast) 4 hours later lunch, 4 hours later a quick snack, and then some kind of dinner, often my snack becomes my dinner.
But I lost 4 lbs! :)) It must have been from the reduction of calories, it all falls on that: take in less calories that you are using.

I knew I lost weight, I could feel it, but just now got on the scale.
I'm still eating healthy, though, but a lot less (in my opinion, not enough, and not often enough) but it worked. The downside is that I'm tired.

My problem is that I have no time to get a snack squeezed in between breakfast and lunch. I get to school at 8:30 am, 1st period starts at 9 am. It's 77 minutes long, when it's over there is 4 minutes in between classes, just enough to get everyone out and the other class back in. Then another 77 minutes, and when it's over it's lunch time (around 11:45 am). If I could eat something quick, I would be less tired, but it's impossible :(

My knee started killing me, from being on my feet all the time. The first week or so I've spent mostly observing, so I was standing, since I started teaching and always walking around it's better, but I couldn't even walk normally! So I couldn't go for a walk, or run, etc. It was bad. My chiropractor fixed it in 1 visit (it took me 1 month to be able to see him, because I was tired and busy). I'm sure this will get easier.

But I'm very happy about the 4 lbs!!

Please, please, please be very careful with this. Ketoacidosis can KILL you. It nearly killed me--I spent a week and a half in the ICU for this, and they weren't sure I was going to make it. Granted, my issues arose from the fact that I was diabetic and did not know it, but you certainly don't want to force your body into this kind of condition on purpose. Having large amounts of ketones in your urine is not actually a good thing, no matter how much weight you're losing.

Re: September Weight Loss and Fitness Support

Due to my diabetes diagnosis, I've had to make some lifestyle changes. The result has been that I've gone down at least one size in the past month and a half, although that wasn't really the main goal (the doctors said my weight was fine before). Here's what's been working for me:

    Eating 5-6 times per day
Limiting carbohydrates to approximately 30 grams per meal and 15 grams per snack
Eating protein EVERY time I eat
Making sure to eat veggies at every meal
Exercising at least half an hour every day

It's really a pretty simple formula, but it's effective! I'm also loving this site for low-carb recipes: Your Lighter Side...: ...of Recipes. The "oopsie" buns/rolls are AMAZING! You'll never believe you're not actually eating bread.

I'm not sure what part of Atlanta you're in, but definitely check out the DeKalb Farmers Market! It's an experience for sure, but they have every kind of fruit and veggie you can imagine (and then some!) at the best prices I've found around here. Their spices are a fraction of the grocery store prices.

Genevieve, I go to the dekalb farmers market at least once a week. I'm near decatur so it's easy for me to get there. I got some spag squash but I'm not a big fan...and oh yes I've discovered the spices. I got about 1000 bay leaves for $0.95.

And thanks for the low carb recipe link!

I'm sick right now so my diet is going to ****. i'm eating comfort foods like mac and cheese and big bowls of ice cream. plus the naan from the indian place didn't help either. oh well we all need a little break, right?

Aww, hope you feel better! You definitely deserve a break from dieting while you're sick.

Enjoy the recipes! I think we're going to try out the doughnuts tonight...oh yes, low-carb, sugar-free doughnuts, and they aren't even made out of weird, scary ingredients you can't pronounce! I'm loving it.

I've been working the last three weekends at the Maryland Renn Faire selling roses, so A LOT of walking! Been trying to clean up my diet again, healthy breakfast (plain yogurt, nuts, fruit) salad w/protein for lunch and veggies w/protein for dinner. Limiting alcohol, and trying to get my 8 hrs of sleep. And low and behold! I've dropped a few lbs! Muffin top is greatly diminished and I can see my cheekbones again! WHEEE!
My cousin has agreed to be my online coach/buddy for P90X...he has lost over 20 lbs in the last 60 days doing the program so I feel pretty good about getting myself ready for the trip to Hawaii that boyfriend is planning as my Xmas gift.
