The Tibetian 5 anyone know more about it?

    Hi

I have just come across the Tibetian 5, from a local yoga teacher.

I love finding these things out and as a 30 minute morning start it works well.

In the Uk we have this very famous 82 year old entertainer who dances and is full of energy, he swears by it and does it every morning. Apparently his mother in law recommended him this small, non discript book that illustrated the 5 positions/movements for him to repeat 21 times each per day. He was marrying her daughter 25 years his junior and a Latino Miss Universe, so she thought he might need a physical hand!!!!!

Since then I have found out that several people do it and find that it's routine, the number 21 and the stretch, strain and strengthening really keeps them fit, alive and kicking.

I am always on the look out for additions, subtractions and new methods of keeping in shape and building it "conveniently" into my daily routine.

Anyone come across this routine and have any reports/ideas about it?

It's always been my understanding that it's similar to Salute to the Sun but don't quote me on it. Bruce Forsyth is an old vaudevillean, he's probably making it up.

Yes, but rite #4 (table top hee-hee) is a little hard for me. It's also called the "Five Tibetan Rights." Here is more info:

I find the table top hard too, my shoulders are quite tight these days.

I am not sure he is making it up, but you are right you never know.

Try it, the 21 times intrigues me. Apparently any less and that is fine and you will feel the affects and 21 is the one to aim for. Over 21 and then there is no, or little gain and it is no worth doing more that the said number.

The downward and upward dog is very much like the salute to the sun.

The back bend is like the yoga camel, and bloody hard work.

It starts with 21 spins, which I was surprised at. Most people in the class started to retch, but Ioved it, spinning is my number 1 favourite movement.

I met a dancer who said there are several very basic dynamic moves in dance and you will find one that suits you and it is the place to start. She bounced and when she was in the zone it was like she was made of rubber, apparently skipping is another and spinning is another. I can literally spin for hours, not a problem and very blissful.

Anyone had a history of doing the Tibetian 5 and can tell us about the results and affects?

In my opinion, it's a basic intro to yoga with spinning included. I tried it for a few months, and I felt more flexible and toned, but personally I don't think it's the magic formula it's touted to be by some.

I consider it a magic formula & really need to get back to it, starting tomorrow! When I first learned about it, it was in a class. I came home, started practicing. 2-3 weeks later, we were in church singing "The Lord's Prayer". I've never had a good singing voice but found myself not only singing in a good strong voice, but nice tones. My friend next to me actually turned to look at me. Wow! I'm sold.

A-mazing, looking through the regime again it does strike me as an all in one a-mazing collection of movements and postures. I can see why it is so popular.
