I've been working on strengthening my quads, stomach and back for floorwork. Today I did some yoga - specifically working on flexiblity of my back. After I finished with the cobra pose (Yoga Journal - Yoga Practice - For Beginners: Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose)) I got these really deep aches in my ovary region. Is that suppose to happen? Now I'm left wondering if it's just muscles opening a can of whoopa$$ or if I have some ovarian cysts that may have burst. I guess, if the pain persists into Monday, I will call my GYN.
Has anyone else experienced this kind of pain with yoga poses? Should I have added downward dog and then cobra? I warmed up with various exercises and the cat/cow before doing this.

Re: Cobra yoga pose and {ouch!} ovary pain
One part of the iliopsoas muscle runs from the groin through the pelvic cavity and attaches to the spine. This muscle would be stretched during the cobra pose.
I had trigger points in my left side iliopsoas; before I understood what was going on I kept going to my GYN complaining of pelvic pain. The muscle is very deep, can't be massaged very easily, and can be very painful and weird feeling when it is irritated.

Re: Cobra yoga pose and {ouch!} ovary pain
If it persists see a doc. I had something weird happen after some yoga - Upper right ab directly under my ribcage - very uncomfortable feeling. It lasted around 4 weeks and then subsided. I went to the doc at week 2 and they did ultrasounds and found nothing (it was close to the gall bladder area.) It eventually went away but it tightens up off and on when I exercise and dance a lot. I think I strained a muscle. Keep an eye on it.

Re: Cobra yoga pose and {ouch!} ovary pain
I tore my left psoas a few years ago and got that sort of pain... and also nerve pain cause I hurt my discs too. I'd just check w/ a doc if it persists. Maybe insist on a pelvic ultrasound to rule out cysts/tumors/endometriosis and all that and a CT scan of your abdomen to check for anything else.

Re: Cobra yoga pose and {ouch!} ovary pain
It was a painful night but I was able to get some sleep with the help of a heating pad. The pain has subsided a good amount leaving tinges of pain but I think I will be okay. I will still go in for a checkup though. Better safe than sorry.
