It didn't look like anyone has started October's thread so here it goes...
Last week I joined Weight Watchers. At my weigh-in tonight, I'd lost 1.2 lbs. Not as much as I'd hoped, but still a step in the right direction. I also picked up a copy of "You on a Diet" by Drs. Oz and Roizin (sp?). I've only read a little, but it seem like a good book and I look forward to learning some new information about how our bodies work in relation to weight control. I also picked up a pedometer and will work on getting in 10,000 steps a day. T
How's it going for everyone else?

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
I have gained ten pounds since July! It is a lot easier to put it on than take it off, apparently. So I need to join this thread this month!!! Recent event pics were painful to look at...
Cutting back on white sugar and flour usually works well for me, so that's where I will start.

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
I haven't had a weigh in in awhile, but I don't think I've changed at all...which is okay. I'm not really looking to lose much, just stay healthy and keep my energy level up.
and for some reason I LOVE to be bad. I made peanut butter banana oatmeal chocolate chip butterscotch chip cookies tonight. they were good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
I made aNOTHER batch of cookies. these were peanut butter, coconut, chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. and I ate 6 of them yesterday.
BUT I've been working out so much and doing really well with the rest of my diet that I've lost a half an inch off my waist! yay me!!!
I've started to lift weights now so I will start to gain weight, but I think it will help with my overall body fat because the more lean muscle you have, the better your metabolism works!

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
How do you balance your workouts with your dance practice/drilling? I know both need to be done, but have trouble getting both in daily, which sometimes leads me to not getting either done (too much stress, surrounded by too much "life" to deal with). which of course leads to a wide ass that won't fit into my lovely cossies.
Has anyone found a happy medium and a routine that works well???
ps - My recent cookie replacement is to mix 1/4 cup of Kashi cereal with a spoonful of natural peanut butter and a sprinkle of special dark chocolate chips. YUM! And how bad can that be for you???
So very tasty and all "healthy" ingredients...a bit like a Kit Kat bar.

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
lily that cookie sounds good!
I actually have a very hard time balancing...unless I have nothing to do that day, its rare if I get both workout and dance in. I will have to start trying harder though. Usually I try to dance once or twice a week (along with class) to improve my dancing, and I fit workouts in around that.
The biggest thing that gets me to workout (aka run) is having a dog. if he doesn't get exercise I feel bad, so I run him 3.5 miles a day (when time allows).

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
I need to start working out at home. Since Aug 23rd I have not worked out, nor went for a run - nothing! i have absolutely no time - it feels like - because I'm student teaching, and still dancing, and still being a single mom. Student teaching takes up 80 % of my energy.
I did lose 4 lbs during the 1st month, just by not having time to eat, so overall I consumed less calories every day. I look better, I feel smaller, my costumes fit, etc, but I feel the need to work out.
The thing is I can't go running, my knees have been killing me. I think I have meniscus, and although my chiropractor made it bearable, I think running would make it worse.
I think i can lose another 4 lbs this month, but I need to work with hand weights at home, do sit ups, etc.
I've allowed myself to eat "forbidden" foods here an there, because the calories fit into my "budget" :)) so overall I'm happy, because I lost weight, but i don't feel like I'm dieting.

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
Today, 10/10/10, was to be my big stick-to-my-goal-workout-day, but life got in the way again. This morning my bf found out (on Facebook, of all places) that his best bud (friends since high school) passed away. Today has been a very sad day.
Tomorrow, tomorrow...oh well, I'll have even more incentive soon, have ordered some of Hannan Sultan's instructional dvd's, yay! Can't wait to start working with those.

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
I've been working with my Wii Fit a lot over the past month. I really enjoy it and have found some of the strength, yoga and balance exercises to be very good. I just got the EA Active dvd too - I plan to do a 30 day challenge if I can get some of the technology issues resolved. (I think I got a bad dvd?)

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
I lost 2.8 lbs last week, for a total of 4 lbs so far. I'm quite pleased with the progress so far. It keeps me motivated to keep on doing what I'm doing.

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
lily, that is HORRIBLE. you get a free pass for 10/10/10. some times we just need free passes.
I haven't weighed myself consistenly in quite awhile. so I got on the scale at the gym last week. I will be lifting weights too, so I don't think i'll have any weight loss, but probably weight gain.
we can do it!!

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
Hey Ladies,
I'm partially lurking on this thread up until now. Mostly because I haven't been able to deal with my weight gain and my ballooning up to a size 20 from a size 16 in a matter of months. Had an emotional crisis. You know how it goes.
I officially joined Weight Watchers again as of last Monday and am looking forward to my first weigh in. I'm just doing the online, though. I can't afford to do meetings as well because I got a gym membership as well.
I did have some ultra-delish chocolate cake yesterday for my birthday, but I've got plenty of room for it. I'm glad I joined WW again. It feels like I've gotten some control over my extended bingefest.

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
I totally know how this feels. On Oct 3 my best friend since middle school passed away suddenly in her sleep after a tonsillectomy. She was 30. Healthy for the most part. I found out on Facebook to. Her sister wrote something bad happened to Carm and that we needed to call her right away.
Please give your bf my sympathies.

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
Oh Allyis, how horrible, I am so very sorry for your loss. Not something you'd expect after what would be considered a routine procedure...this must've been a huge blow to her friends and family.
My bf is still struggling with the loss of his friend. I just think there are so many regrets, things you'd wish had been said and done, when when a loved one is lost so abruptly. Thank you all for your kind words, I'll definitely pass them on to him.

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
On a lighter note (literally :-), I managed to lose a few pounds. Really been watching my diet (well, except for today) and drilling for 1-2 hours, with a strengthening routine thrown in if I could still move at the end of the day. I had it backwards at first, doing the strengthening first and dance second, but the drilling wasn't very effective cause I had already worn myself out. So, finally realized I needed to reverse the action and it's working great! Priorities, ya know, just had to get my priorities straight. Wish I had a scale at home...
Keep it up, everybody!! We're off to a great start!!!!!Last edited by IrishLily; 10-23-2010 at 06:51 PM.

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
I have been doing the 30 Day Shred. I run my studio fulltime. I am a part time student. And a performer....etc etc...It's only 20 minutes a day and after the first week I lost about .5 inch all over.
I know it's not for everyone but I love that I can do it in 20 minutes a day. And I love that I can see results already.

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
Well since my divorce last year I lost about 15 lbs. So I try hard to maintain my size by eating more fruits and veggies and cutting my portions in half. I do different workouts like P90X, Insanity and ChaLean Extreme. I fit in pilates and yoga for my dance...and some practice as well. I need to juggle that better. I find myself doing more workin out than practicing because Im focusing more on my physical appearance and being able to wear my costumes. But I can do it!

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
I went from zero to hero this week, and my body is taking strain.
Last Friday was supposed to be my last day at work (I resigned because I finally gave up trying to deal with the boss) but they begged me to stay on part time for a few more weeks. Seems they can't work without me.
Huh!
Anyway, I decided this week was going to be the start of my new life, as I'm a morning person and my part-time work starts mid-day - and because I didn't lose an ounce last month! But I think my enthusiasm got the better of me.....
Monday - one hour walk with dog in very hilly terrain, 10 mins strength training, 30 mins belly dance training, 15 mins stretching. Followed by 3 hours of housework.
Tuesday - unable to walk. No exercise, only housework.
So Wednesday and yesterday I just did the walk, strength training and stretching (and housework), and today I only walked.
Eeeaaaasssse into it, my new motto!I'd like to give you some moral advice, but I have questionable morals.

Re: October Weight Loss and Fitness Support
Most of the people do the exercise and workout in October to December months. The reason is that most of the people are free in these days and there are vocation from the schools.
